As part of the deal with Prime Video, Premier Boxing Champions released “Gloves Off” in support of the PPV event on Saturday between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Frank Martin. The show, which premiered in March with Tim Tszyu and Keith Thurman, has been received well amongst the fight fans even though the episode run time was shorter than 30 minutes.
The opening scene for the first episode was in Las Vegas, NV, where Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, is seen speaking to hip-hop legend Flavor Flav from the iconic group Public Enemy. Flavor Flav is seen politicking to Ford about getting tickets to Saturday’s PPV event. Then the Prime Video Sports credits come in, and they go to the kickoff press conference, where a reporter states that this is the most relaxed they have seen Davis for a press conference. Tank responds by saying, “I’m excited to be back. Sound bites from each fighter are featured, and then audio from Davis with a blacked-out screen gets cued up with him saying, “Me and Frank (Martin) got history.”
Davis then goes into the infamous sparring session between him and Martin that was brought up at the press conference. Davis describes the sparring session, saying he was caught with a left hand by Martin but then returned the favor by catching Martin with one of his own, which led to Martin grabbing him. Martin, however, remembers the session differently as he hit Davis with the “brick hand” and felt it. Martin said, “He ain’t calling it the brick hand for no reason.” Martin said they had to keep breaking them up after the two wrestled.

The “Gloves Off” title screen comes on, and the scene returns to Las Vegas, where Davis and his team are at a gym. Davis and Ford are watching some fighters spar in the ring. Davis then talks about not being in the ring for 14 months. He questions how that time away will make him feel come fight night. Davis goes into overcoming the things he has faced while scenes of him hitting the heavy bag play in the background. The episode goes back to Baltimore, MD, in the summer of 2023, when he was released from the Baltimore City Detention Center, where he was incarcerated for 44 days after violating his house arrest terms. Davis said, “It’s a learning experience,” and “it showed me it’s not where I want to be.”
The episode then goes into Davis’ fight against Ryan Garcia, in which he admitted to being nervous leading up to the fight. He describes the things that occurred in the fight and how he was able to put together the stoppage. Davis said he felt “relieved” once he knocked out Garcia.
Afterward, the camera crew rolls into Dallas, TX, where Frank Martin is seen driving and speaking to the cameras. Then the title “Chapter 2: Making up for lost time” comes up as Martin works the mitts with his trainer, Derrick James. Martin loves being the underdog and wants to prove his capabilities to everyone. Then, the narrator goes into Martin’s come-up, which is a later start than most fighters. A training montage is played, and then it goes to Martin, watching football on his phone at home. After a scene with Martin and his dog, another training montage shows Martin doing all types of workouts in the gym with his team.
The episode returns to Davis in the gym as he sells the fight by talking up Martin. Then, the commercial for the PPV is played, which puts an end to the episode, which had a run time of 18 minutes and 30 seconds.
Gloves Off Episode Two
Davis starts the episode by talking about his fight and the co-main, which features David Benavidez vs. Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The cameras go to Miami, FL, where Benavidez is in the car driving away after a workout. He talks about having a training camp in Miami and how it is motivating to do so. Benavidez goes into Mike Tyson, giving him the name “The Mexican Monster,” and he explains why the name matches his style.
Then the episode displays “Chapter 3: The Mexican Monster,” and it shows his son shadowboxing to the commands of Benavidez Sr. Benavidez goes into a story about visiting Miami about 5-6 years ago and getting one of the best hotel rooms with an ocean view. Now, he owns a condo that overlooks that same hotel. “You literally manifest stuff without even knowing,” said Benavidez. He feels he can’t let up and has to work even harder to maintain the lifestyle he has created for himself.
Benavidez is then shown going into a gym in Miami, where he’s been training for the past four months. He talks about dominating the light heavyweight division as he did with the super middleweight one. The episode goes into his opponent, Gvozdyk, and what he brings to the episode. Benavidez admits that he has sparred with Gvozdyk a few times in Oxnard, CA, so there is a level of familiarity between the two. Benavidez says the fight will end in a knockout.
The episode ends with the final words from all four fighters as they hype the PPV event.
