Boxing continues its roll as we have entered fight week for an intriguing WBA lightweight title fight. The champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) defends his title against Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV on PPV. It’s been 14 months since Davis was last in the ring, and the anticipation is high for one of boxing’s top stars.
The last time Davis was in the ring, he faced another star, Ryan Garcia, and that event produced over 100 million dollars in revenue, which hadn’t been done in recent years. Davis scored a seventh-round knockout and social media was buzzing for months about it. Davis would go to court shortly after and was sentenced to house arrest, which led to being incarcerated for 30 days. Davis now looks to continue his momentum as he faces a young contender looking to capture the mainstream audience’s attention that will tune in on Saturday.
Martin last fought 11 months ago, earning a unanimous decision over Artem Harutyunyan. Martin has been in the headlines since then as he turned down a seven-figure payday against WBC champion Shakur Stevenson in hopes of something bigger. That gamble worked out, but this fight against Davis is much tougher and looks explosive. Can Martin put it all together and avoid Davis’ devastating punching power to earn a decision victory?
