Goulamirian vs Ramirez Fight Results: ‘Zurdo’ Wins By Unanimous Decision

It was a highly entertaining main event for the WBA cruiserweight title, but in the end, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (46-1, 30 KOs) would beat a tough Arsen Goulamirian (27-1, 18 KOs) to become the first Mexican cruiserweight champion in the history of the sport. All three judges saw this fight the same: 118-110 for Ramirez. He is now a two-division champion.

Ramirez was boxing well in the first round as he established the distance he was most comfortable with. Goulamirian was following Ramirez around but would score some hard straight right hands. In the second round, Goulamirian landed some big straight right hands that snapped Ramirez’s head back while following it up with a left hook to the body. Ramirez did not like this at all and used his footwork to keep it outside of mid-range for most of the round.

Ramirez did a good job of using his feet in the third round to avoid staying on the ropes and would throw three to four punch combinations whenever it appeared Goulamirian was setting up to throw a punch. That action would force Goulamirian to reset each time. Ramirez’s Ring IQ started to show in round four as he switched his offense to left and right uppercuts while in close. Goulamirian got Ramirez against the ropes to land some big right hands, but it wasn’t enough to hurt Ramirez.

Goulamirian forced the action more in the fifth round, but by doing so, he left himself open to Ramirez’s left uppercut, which couldn’t miss. Ramirez landed a short right hook that made Goulamirian stumble in the sixth round, but then he returned to stun Ramirez towards the end of the sixth round. Goulamirian landed four consecutive right hooks while Ramirez stayed in the pocket in the seventh round. Ramirez would then fire back, and both fighters went blow for blow to the bell.

Ramirez controlled the pace in the eighth round as things slowed down, but Goulamirian was still landing head-snapping punches that kept Ramirez honest throughout the round. It was a back-and-forth round in the ninth as both fighters landed bombs on each other, but neither looked hurt.

During the championship rounds, Goulamirian started to land three to four-punch combinations as Ramirez stood still and, in the pocket, up close. Ramirez took some big shots but kept coming forward, landing ones of his own. The last round was filled with both fighters emptying the gas tank. They went blow for blow and hugged each other once the bell rang, concluding this fight.

Alexis Rocha Battles Hard To Score A seventh Round Knockout

Alexis Rocha (24-2, 17 KOs) had to buckle down and go through some hard rounds to stop Fredrick Lawson(30-5, 22 KOs), who was more than game tonight. Lawson’s corner would stop the fight at the end of the seventh round to give Rocha the knockout victory.

In the first round, Rocha started the fight aggressively, as Lawson didn’t have much offense to keep him off. Rocha dominated the second round with the straight left down the middle, as Lawson had no defense for it.

Although Lawson didn’t succeed in the first two rounds, he found a home for his counter right hook in the third round. On two occasions, the counter shot made Rocha hesitate before returning inside. Lawson’s counter right hand kept giving Rocha something to think about in the fourth round. Rocha did have some highlights, but his momentum kept getting stopped by Lawson’s counter shots.

In the fifth round, Lawson’s counter right hand created a nosebleed on Rocha. In the sixth, Rocha landed a looping left hook, sending Lawson to tumble to the ropes. The referee called it a knockdown as the ropes prevented Lawson from falling. Rocha would attempt to stop Lawson, but Lawson’s counterpunching was giving Rocha issues.

Rocha landed a hard-looping left hook that rocked Lawson in the seventh round and then jumped all over him. The bell would save Lawson, but his corner would ask for the fight to be stopped. Rocha scored the knockout victory, but it was no easy task as Lawson gave a spirited performance.
