According to Frank Warren, Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) knows how to hurt Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs).
‘The Gypsy King’ is on a vengeance arc as he gears up for his rematch against ‘The Cat’ in what could potentially be an iconic rematch at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December. As the fight date approaches, Queensberry Promotions’ top man, Warren, has an interesting take on why Fury has the upper hand in the rematch.
Warren was talking to reporters at the fight launch press conference. In conversation, he delved into the previous fight between the duo. He mentioned that Fury had caught Usyk with a powerful uppercut during the seventh round. However, he came out and hit Fury on the nose during the very next round.
“Tyson lost a lot of his momentum; he kept touching his nose and his eyes, and that was the turning point in the fight. The next round Tyson was in trouble, but Usyk couldn’t finish off the job. Tyson came through it and even came up with a win in the last round,” he said. Warren added that it was a fight of two halves and stated that Fury knew what he had to do during the fight. He also mentioned that Fury and Usyk have been in tough fights, and only on fight night will they say who’ll emerge as the victor.
“Usyk has shown he can be hurt – I mentioned that seventh round, where his legs were all over the place when he got caught – and we know he doesn’t like it to the body. Tyson knows that now, so now we see if they can put their respective game plans into action and do it,” he said.
“We’ll See Who Can Exploit What”
Warren, however, is looking forward to an exciting fight between Fury and Usyk. He revealed that he absolutely loved the first fight and is hoping that the upcoming fight will be equally special. “We will find out on December 21 because obviously they’ve shared the ring together, they’ve seen strengths and weaknesses as close up as you can possibly be, and we’ll see who can exploit what they feel will be those weaknesses,” he said.
