Turki Alalshikh is certainly displeased by Tyson Fury’s (34-2-1, 24 KOs) decision to retire from boxing.
‘The Gypsy King’ recently bid adieu to the sport that made him a household name. This decision came barely a month after his second consecutive loss to the Ukrainian powerhouse, Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) in their highly anticipated rematch. Alalshikh, on the other hand, seemed rather perplexed by this abrupt decision and even pushed for a U-Turn on his decision.
Alalshikh was recently interviewed with Simon Jordan and Spencer Oliver for talkSPORT Boxing. In conversation, the trio turned their attention towards Fury’s retirement announcement. “It must be whatever they are thinking if they have something to give or not. As a fan of boxing, I don’t like it. We want to see Tyson in more big fights, but I can understand his decision,” Alalshikh said. “But over time, this decision can change.” He further mentioned that he was ready to have talks with Fury over a U-Turn on his decision. However, he wishes to leave Fury alone for a bit to spend time with his family and clear his head.
Meanwhile, rumors have been circulating about a $600 million purse (500 million pounds) that Fury could possibly get his hands on. This rumor undoubtedly sparked an interest in fans about the former champ potentially coming out of retirement (similar to his previous retirement announcements) for a big payday.
Alalshikh was quick to put those rumors to rest. “But a lot of rumors don’t help us. No one will propose £500 million for a fight; these numbers are incorrect,” he said.
“In The Next Three or Four Weeks”
Fury’s long-awaited potential showdown against Anthony Joshua has remained a distant dream. However, with his retirement announcement, promoter Eddie Hearn has given him an ultimatum if he wishes to make the fight a reality. “None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we are to see the fight in the summer, he would probably have to come out of retirement in the next three or four weeks,” Hearn said while talking to Mail Sport.
“After that, the summer gets difficult for a fight of this size. The future? Hopefully. I think he will be back, but it’s in his hands.”
