Add FightsATW on GoogleCome Saturday, Emanuel Navarrete (40-2-1, 33 KOs) has his titles on the line against WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster (25-3, 12 KOs). And as the fight night draws closer, there is one thing that Foster is certain about: he is ready.
At their recent presser, Navarette stressed that he hoped for an explosive showdown rather than a mere points grab.
“What I don’t want is an entire night where we’re just jabbing each other to see who can land more jabs. I think people want to see a good fight. They want to see a war,” he said.
Navarrete seems to underestimate how difficult a puzzle Foster can present, though the Mexican champion’s confidence is understandable given his relentless style and size advantage. He has built his reputation by overwhelming opponents with awkward angles and constant pressure. However, Foster represents a very different test, a cerebral, rangy boxer who excels at controlling distance. In fact, the latter has specifically pointed to Navarrete’s struggles against naturally bigger men.
That is the potential danger for Navarrete; his usual mauling pressure could walk him directly into Foster’s counters, particularly if he becomes reckless trying to force exchanges. However, Foster is confident that he wouldn’t have to wait around for Navarrete’s gameplan to work in his favour.
“I don’t fight to other people’s advantages. Whatever he brings to the table, I’ll adjust,” he said. “He don’t really like getting hit, in my opinion. He’ll trade with you, but we’ll see. If he does that, it’ll be a great night for me.”

“Another One of Those Fights”
But how confident is Foster? To put it plainly, exceedingly so. In fact, he mentioned that he was sure that it was going to end up becoming one of those fights where his opponent underestimates him.
“I think this will be another one of those fights where they think they’re going to be walking into me, and once they feel that power and he realizes it’s not going to be that easy, we’re going to have them on their back foot,” he said.
