Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) might actually be worried about the prospect of facing Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs).
The British boxing superstar will battle it out for Dubois’ IBF heavyweight title in a few days at the Wembley Stadium. While Joshua has expressed confidence in his skillset against Dubois, as the fight date approaches, he made a rather surprising admission that might just leave his fans worried.
“I’m tense. I’m tense. The fight’s around the corner – I don’t forget that the fight’s around the corner. This is chilled though. We’re not fighting today, so I’m chilled, but in terms of where I’m at, there’s a time when I was doing what I was doing, and in front of everyone, on the live stage – I was changing my style,” he said while talking to DAZN.
In conversation, he also shed light on his previous losses to Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). He mentioned that he was trying out a new style of fighting, which wasn’t particularly fan-friendly. Joshua said he was working with Ben Davison and changed his style again, this time for the better. “So, I went on that journey trying to improve – when I fought Usyk, I tried to change style the first fight; then I changed it again for the second fight. Pulev, I was hands in the air, loose shoulders. I was trying to develop in different aspects, and then Ben pulled it all together at the last minute,” he added.
“When you’re doing something so long, sometimes you just have to remember how good you are. Sometimes we forget that.”
“I’m Going To Be A Certain Mentality”
With barely two days left for fight night, Joshua is confident that he will bring in a new mentality that will surprise viewers, and it sure looks like he is not leaving any room for errors.
“I’ve been trying to level up and get that little bit closer to my greatness. It’s something I’ve been thinking about. An experience – I’m going to be walking into that ring, and I’m going to be a certain mentality that is going to be unstoppable. I don’t want to look back on Sunday morning and be, ‘If only I’d done that.’ I’ve got a chance to make it happen, so why not?” he said. With both fighters ready to bring in their primordial bests, Saturday night will certainly be a spectacle.
