Is Manny Pacquiao Making A Comeback?

Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs) remains one of the most iconic faces in the world of boxing. However, one question remains forever fresh in the minds of fans. When will boxing’s ‘Pacman’ come back to the ring? And it sure looks like the answer to that question might just be around the corner.

In a recent tweet, boxing journalist Lance Pugmire revealed that Pacquiao will be making a comeback on July 28, 2024, with a showdown in Japan. Moreover, this potential comeback fight is set to take place under the RIZIN banner. While there is not much information about the fight currently, there is certainly an increased sense of excitement to see him make a comeback.

Pacquiao was last seen in an exhibition against Korean martial artist DK Yoo at the Korea International Exhibition Center in Goyang in 2022. Moreover, he went on to win the fight via a unanimous decision.

“Actively Looking For Something”

This announcement comes at a time when Pacquiao’s advisor, Sean Gibbons, opened up about the champ’s plans to have a magnum opus showdown before hanging up his gloves for good. In fact, he even shed light on the possibility of a fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor (22-6, 19 KOs).

“It was always really a great dream for him and Conor McGregor, but Conor’s got so much UFC business or whatever. Manny’s (Pacquiao)got about nine months left because he’s going to run for office again, so he’s still actively looking for something,” he said. Gibbons mentioned that there were plans to pit Pacquiao against Conor Benn (23-0, 14 KOs). However, Benn’s failed drug tests drove a wedge between the plans.

“We got bad luck. You saw the hype, the build-up, everybody was excited, all sides wanted to do it, but unfortunately, losing the appeal cost the fight,” he added. “Conor Benn, they said he comes off suspension in September; there’s still an opportunity to do that. I always thought Kell Brook would have been fun… Exhibitions… Conor Benn was the ideal fight because it would have been competitive.”
