YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) was all set to make to fight his most iconic matchup yet against ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs). However, fate had other plans after Tyson’s medical scare caused the fight to be postponed and, in turn, pushed Paul to face MMA fighter Mike Perry (0-1) as a replacement. Taking on Perry seems to have brought in a new host of problems, as many believe that Paul may have jeopardized his fight against Tyson by doing so.
Paul was talking to DAZN Boxing ahead of his upcoming fight. In conversation, he revealed that he has been receiving flak for taking on Perry as an opponent.
“A lot of people think I’m crazy for pivoting to this; why Mike Perry, why now, why take the risk? You could lose the biggest payday of your life against Mike Tyson if you lose to Mike Perry, who is a violent killer, a bare-knuckle, undefeated legend over there. He takes punches like they’re nothing, he’s fast, athletic, he hits hard, he’s a brawler, and I can’t take that lightly,” he said.
Paul further mentioned that he is completely focused on his fight against Perry on the 20th and is certain that his mindset will secure him a victory. “I need the experience; I need to stay active. I fear no man. I’m ready anytime, any place, anyone, and I truly back that up with my action. It’s not just something I say; I’m here to become world champion,” he added.
“Let’s Do It”
Paul’s decision to fight Perry certainly seems to have caught the attention of many notable names in the MMA fraternity. In fact, UFC star Paddy Pimblett even hinted at possibly fighting him in the near future.
In a recent interview, Pimblett, who is nearing the end of his contract with UFC, revealed that Paul had earned his respect by choosing to fight a fighter like Perry. He then mentioned that the Youtuber turned boxer could potentially entice him to step inside the ring with him.
“If Jake Paul sends a contract over for a couple of million dollars and wants to fight me, let’s do it. We’re prize fighters at the end of the day. That’s what people forget. We do this to get paid. It’s all about money,” he said.
