The more things change, the more they stay the same, or at least, those are the famous words of French novelist Alphonse Carr, and they apply to the wrestling game today more than ever, as TKO/Endeavor continues to shape and reshape this new era of wrestling. Last week, in the ‘RAW/SD after Mania’ aftermath, we learned that several key names were cut, including Kairi Sane and the entire Wyatt Sycks faction.
Post-Mania cuts are nothing new, but seeing Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods on that list just a week after the last cuts certainly qualifies as a “New Day” in WWE. Along with the record-breaking tag team champs, MFTs’ J.C. Mateo and Tonga Loa were also part of the talent departing from WWE, as first reported by Sean Ross Sapp and Cory Hays.
This round is different because the reports suggest that Kofi and Woods, who signed extensions in October of last year, left the company after they were asked to restructure their deal. The duo reportedly was not keen on that idea and has now departed the company.
There is a 90-day non-compete clause they must abide by for now, but once that is over, there will be massive demand for them outside the WWE shackles, specifically in AEW. Before AEW even existed, The New Day (when they were a trio) consistently traded online barbs with The Young Bucks in a rivalry that questioned which team was the generation’s better tag team (and which team were the better gamers).

The speculation will continue for the next three months, but these recent cuts will have no trouble finding work.
Kofi and Woods debuted as The New Day alongside Big E in 2014. The group, originally portrayed as heels, would end up getting their gimmick over massively, which led to title runs for both Kofi (known as Kofi-Mania) and Big E—now retired due to injury.
