For the second consecutive weekend, the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, UK, will host a high-profile fight with this team, an event headlined by a junior welterweight fight for the vacant interim WBO title. Top contenders Jack Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs) and Arnold Barboza Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs) will face off for the right to either face Teofimo Lopez within 180 days of Saturday’s fight or have the win elevate them to a full world champion.
Catterall had an impressive 2024 as he avenged his only loss by beating Josh Taylor via unanimous decision in May. Then, the 31-year-old southpaw scored a dominant unanimous decision over Regis Prograis in October, which earned him the fight on Saturday night. Catterall can get a shot at the WBO title if he beats Barboza Jr. on Saturday night. Catterall is a slight betting favorite, which is appropriate given how close this fight is on paper.
After what seemed like one broken promise after another, Barboza is finally one step away from getting the title shot he’s been waiting for. Barboza fought three times last year, the last fight being in November against Jose Ramirez. Both fighters did not look particularly good that night, but Barboza was more effective, which led to a unanimous decision victory.
