On Saturday, Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis collide in an all-southpaw junior welterweight clash at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, England. The scheduled 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will stream live on DAZN.
Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) is coming off a revenge victory over former undisputed 140-pound world champion Josh Taylor in May. The Chorley native was on the wrong end of a disputed split decision defeat against Taylor in February 2022. Now, the 31-year-old hopes to deliver on the big stage against a two-time world champion.
Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) has only lost to the elite. In October 2019, the 35-year-old suffered his first pro loss in a majority decision to a then-undefeated Taylor in a Fight of the Year contender. Three years later, Prograis became a two-time world champion with an 11th-round knockout of perennial title contender Jose Zepeda in Carson, California. His second reign was again a short one. Following a voluntary defense against Danielito Zorrilla, Prograis lost the belt to a then-unbeaten Devin Haney in December. Ten months later, Prograis is ready to return to the ring.
Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis Prediction
Stylistically, this is a fight that favors Catterall. He’s a smart, calculated, and technical boxer with underrated skill. In his prime, Prograis was a destructive power puncher against guys who stood in front of him in the pocket, allowing the heavy-handed fighter to dispatch them with ease. However, he struggles against top fighters who move and punch effectively. Catterall may not have the speed of Haney, but he’s a solid guy overall and doesn’t get enough credit for how good he really is. Catterall isn’t a very powerful puncher, but I expect him to get a knockdown in this fight.
