Jai Opetaia Scores A Savage knockout Over Ellis Zorro In The First Round

Jai Opetaia (24-0, 19 KOs) drilled Ellis Zorro (17-1, 7 KOs) with an overhand left which knocked him out in the first round of their fight. Opetaia is the best cruiserweight in the world, and although there was just a small glimpse of it with the fight lasting only one round, everyone watching saw how good he really was.

Unfortunately, the IBF stripped Opetaia of his title earlier this week, but it seemed like he expressed some of that frustration in the ring early today. Opetaia agreed with Chris Mannix about bringing his frustrations to the fight, but he was ready for Zorro for whatever he had to bring. “I trained for 12 rounds; if the knockout comes, it comes. He (Zorro) was very hesitant and didn’t engage much,” said Opetaia. “The last 18 months have been all part of the journey.”

Eddie Hearn was asked what was next for Opetaia, and he expressed his desire to make him an undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving on to the heavyweight division. With a ton of enthusiasm, Hearn ended the interview by saying, “This is one of the most exciting fighters on the planet.”
