Jake Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) recently suffered the second loss of his professional career, after his showdown against Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs). But, from what Paul has to say, it certainly looks like he wasn’t too surprised by the outcome.
Talking on his brother Logan Paul’s podcast, Impaulsive, following his loss to Joshua, the younger Paul admitted that he had dominated the initial few rounds and that it is actually not too hard to get beaten by a fighter of Joshua’s calibre.
“It’s not that hard to get your a*s beat,” Paul said. “I won two rounds, then he won two, then I got dropped. But I was doing good, my cardio, just the mental pressure of the big guy, and sparring the big people is different than the 10oz gloves, so I was feeling his power a lot more.”
The opening rounds saw Paul use a defensive strategy, moving away from (and around) Joshua to avoid any engagement. After the initial few rounds, which could be called rather challenging, he dropped Paul four times and defeated him via sixth-round knockout.

It should be noted that fans were surprised to see Joshua struggling in the early rounds. While Joshua was able to end the fight explosively, the fact that it dragged on for so long left many wondering whether the initial rounds were part of Paul’s (alleged) script.
Paul, however, hoped he had more time.
“I wish I had more than like three weeks to put on more muscle so I could really hit him. My biggest mistake was not doing altitude training,” he said. “I see where I could have done better, so I’m a little disappointed, but I also know how good he is. I had him wobbled at one point, but he had his hands up better this fight.”
“He’ll Take The Fight”
But what’s next for the supremely confident ‘El Gallo’? It looks like he hasn’t toned down his sights. Talking during the same podcast, he opened up about his plans to face MMA superstar Francis Ngannou in the future.
“I told everyone that I’d do better than Francis,” Paul said. “Francis kind of got no chin. Francis is lowkey soft. I think maybe now he’ll take the fight.”
