After weeks of speculation and rumors, it is now official: Jake Paul will face Anthony Joshua on December 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, FL, live on Netflix.
There were questions whether Paul would still fight in December, with the proposed date rapidly approaching the 30-day mark. On Monday morning, the world woke up to the news that Paul will face Joshua, and it could be the second-most-watched boxing event, if not the first, a title held by Paul vs. Mike Tyson. This is Paul’s biggest test to date and the most dangerous. It isn’t a past prime fighter or a former UFC one, it’s an active heavyweight contender who is a former two-time champion. Paul facing Joshua will be one of the most talked-about events heading into fight night and will truly close out the year with a bang.
Here is what Paul had to say via an MVP press release: “This isn’t an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day,” said Paul. “A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, December 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain’s Goliath gets put to sleep. I KNOWWWW YOU GOT EM PICKED HAHAHHA.”

In the same press release, Joshua said, “Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy,” said Joshua.“I took some time out, and I’m coming back with a mega show. It’s a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I’m here to do massive numbers, have big fights, and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm, and collected. Mark my words, you’ll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face.”
So now that the fight has been announced, what are some of the things you need to know about this event? According to the press release from Most Valuable Promotions, Paul-Joshua will be sanctioned to fight in eight, three-minute rounds with 10 oz gloves, and Joshua cannot weigh in over 245 pounds (Ring Magazine reported the weight). With regard to the Joshua weight limit, one thing to keep in mind is that he hasn’t come under 245 pounds since the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in August 2022, which was over three years ago. That may become the story everyone pays attention to as the event heads towards fight week.
Other details about the event are as follows:
– Tickets for Jake vs. Joshua: Judgment Day will go on sale Friday, November 21, at 12 pm ET at Ticketmaster.com, and fans can sign up for presale now at jakevsjoshua.com. The event will also feature MVP’s exclusive VIP experiences, including the MVP Owner’s Experience.
–Paul and Joshua will meet face-to-face for the Jake vs. Joshua: Judgment Day Kickoff Press Conference on Friday, November 21, at 1 pm ET at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, and will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. The press conference will be hosted by renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani and will stream live on MVP’s YouTube Channel and Netflix Sports’ YouTube Channel.
Now that the fight is official, is this the better event than the cancelled fight with Gervonta Davis? From the initial reactions on social media, this appears to be twice as big and is trending towards doing bigger numbers than September’s Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez fight.
