After social media was set on fire with a leaked fight poster displaying Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) vs. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), Netflix officially announced the fight and that the event will take place on Friday, November 14, live from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA.
The announcement comes after the Paul-Davis fight quickly became the trending topic on social media. The RING’s Mike Coppinger initially posted on X that the fight would occur on November 15, with Most Valuable Promotions’ co-founder and CEO Nakisa Bidarian shooting down the announcement by posting his own statement on X and saying, “Amazing how ‘sources’ have it confirmed but have it wrong.” This left fans unsure of whether some or all of the news was untrue. Those thoughts were cleared up when Netflix posted the official fight poster and sent out a press release.
One will rise. One will fall.

Now that the fight is official, there are plenty of questions that remain unanswered, like the rules for the main event, fight length, the undercard, and more. Those questions will likely be answered at the press conference that will make the fight official in the weeks to come. Although Davis has shut down his social media accounts since being arrested in July for an alleged domestic violence incident (charges were dropped), Paul hasn’t wasted any time promoting the event on X.
Gervonta who has been disrespecting my name for too long. HIs nickname might be Tank, but I’m an FPV drone and I’m about to disable tiny boy. Yes, he’s 1 of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world, but my motto is anyone, anytime, anyplace, against all odds. And I like my… pic.twitter.com/QGfybMqasx

Although a good portion of the boxing community is not pleased with this fight announcement, a reminder has to go out that this event is not for them. The causal audience that only cares about name recognition will pull up to the event in droves, with the rest tuning in on Netflix. Would you be surprised if this event has a higher viewership than Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford? I wouldn’t be, as this is where we are as a society; entertainment outvalues the legitimacy of an event. So sit back and enjoy the ride as come November 14, you and everyone else who follows the sport and/or these two fighters, will be tuned in.
