On Tuesday morning, news broke that Jake Paul will face bare-knuckle star Mike Perry in a boxing match on July 20 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. The announcement also included news that the event would be on DAZN PPV. While it was anticipated that the price of the PPV would be announced much closer to the event, DAZN has posted a price tag of $64.99 to purchase the event on its platform.
If you are a new subscriber, you have the option of getting the first month for free and then subsequent months at $29.99 a month or doing a “12-month contract,” which includes the first month for free and then $19.99 a month, but you would be paying an annual subscription. If you are already a subscriber, the price is $63.99.

Will This PPV Price Remain For Any Other Platform That Shows The Event?
On June 1, DAZN PPV hosted the Queensberry vs Matchroom: 5v5 event and listed it at $69.99 to see it on their platform. FightsATW broke the news earlier that morning that traditional cable outlets priced the event at $39.99, a 30-dollar price difference. That’s a big deal to boxing fans who shelled out over 400 dollars from the beginning of May to June 15 on boxing PPVs. Whether it was a matter of miscommunication or done purposely, the price difference was too big to ignore. Many fight fans caught on after other media outlets started to report the same and saved themselves 30 dollars on the purchase by getting it through their cable network.
So, although DAZN is showing the #QueensberryVsMarchroom #5v5 for $68.99 here in the U.S.,
I decided to check my DirectTV Cable showing and they have it for $39.95. Now that's a bargain. Lol. pic.twitter.com/6AS7tkCi2J— Abraham Gonzalez (@abeG718) June 1, 2024
It goes back to the age-old argument that boxing treats every event like a going-out-of-business sale. If Paul vs. Mike Tyson is scheduled for November 15 and will stream live on Netflix for only the price of a subscription if you don’t already have one, then Paul vs Perry should be on just DAZN without the PPV price. Perry is a popular fighter on the bare-knuckle boxing scene, but to have him match up with Paul and ask combat sports fans to purchase the PPV is asking a lot from them.
Buying or Passing?

Initially, fans will bark at the idea of paying a premium price for this matchup, but when the calendar reflects fight day, it’s hard not to press that purchase button. It’s something that the fans battle with on fight day each time, but as prices continue to rise for just about everything, that battle will lean more towards putting the control down and settling for clips on social media or reading about it on news websites.
Looking at the fight card outside the main event isn’t that appealing either. Amanda Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs) is fighting Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KOs), and lightweight Tony Aguilar (12-0-1, 4 KOs) faces Corey Marksman (9-0-1, 7 KOs). Unless MVP puts some serious muscle behind the promotion of this fight, the decision to buy or pass may not be as hard as one might think. Will this be the event that tanks so badly that it forces organizers to rethink which fights should be on PPV and which shouldn’t? Probably not, but come July 20, it’ll be interesting to see if there is a real appetite to purchase this event.
