Expect a competitive fight when Jake Paul takes on mixed martial artist and the Bare-Knuckle Fighting Championship’s (BKFC) “Platinum” Mike Perry in an eight-round cruiserweight bout Saturday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Paul was initially scheduled to face former two-time heavyweight champion Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20 on Netflix. The 57-year-old Tyson was forced to withdraw after suffering from a peptic ulcer, and that fight was rescheduled for November 15.
Rather than wait for Tyson, Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) decided not to squander an opportunity to stay busy. He will take on the brash Perry in the event billed as “Fear No Man,” which will also be available via DAZN Pay-Per-View or PPV.com for $64.99.
Why This Fight Could Be Difficult For Paul
Perry (5-0, 3 KOs BKFC) fought for seven years in MMA and debuted with the UFC (7-8) in 2016. After losing five of his last seven appearances with the company, Perry departed the promotion to sign with BKFC, where he has enjoyed vast success, collecting wins over former UFC champions Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez. His triumph over the latter earned him the “King of Violence” championship, reminiscent of UFC’s Baddest Motherfuc*** honor.
While Perry isn’t a pure boxer, he can fight on the front foot and make it a dog fight. His vulnerability, of course, is defense. Straight shots down the middle tend to connect flush. Rockhold managed to rock Perry with a straight left hand down the pipe in the first round of their BKFC clash in April 2023. Perry recovered to knockout Rockhold in the subsequent frame. He loves to brawl, whether it’s against an actual fighter or old men at a bar.
While Paul (9-1, 6 KOs), 27, who trains out of Puerto Rico, isn’t an elite boxer, he has enough skill to hurt and potentially destroy Perry. We know Perry will come forward and try to make it a rough bout on the inside.
Jake Paul’s Gameplan
First and foremost, Paul will have to remain composed. Perry will talk trash and likely land a few shots south of the border. The key to victory here will be Paul’s ability to find the range with the jab and keep Perry’s sloppiness from deviating off course. Keeping Perry at bay will open up more opportunities for him to add some damage. One of Paul’s favorite moves is the inside slip-left hook counter. We already mentioned Perry’s susceptibility to straight shots down the middle with his lack of defense. With the addition of angles, Paul will eventually penetrate Perry. The question is, however, how long will Perry’s chin hold up?
Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry Prediction
It will be intriguing, fun, and competitive for the first few rounds, but Paul gets the job done in a fourth-round knockout in their scheduled eight-round affair.
