Jermall Charlo Labels Caleb Plant A ‘Culture Vulture’

Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) and Caleb Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) have history, and it isn’t pretty.

Following the controversial slap fiasco nearly two years prior, Charlo and Plant are all set to compete in separate fights at the same event, facing Thomas LaMana (39-5-1, 18 KOs) and Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs), respectively. With barely hours remaining for their fights, Charlo is also eyeing a fight against Plant before his popularity declines, even calling him a “culture vulture” and planning a fight for his legacy.

Talking to Stephen A. Smith, Charlo opened up about his thoughts about Plant as a fighter and about potentially facing him in the future.

“We got history, we got history. He snuck me at the thing, he wanna be tough, he wanna be, you know. He’s a culture vulture,” he said.

Charlo was slapped by Plant backstage at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford officially weighed in for their undisputed welterweight title. Plant later revealed that Charlo had instigated the fight by berating him and pulling his beard.

While Plant has the interim WBA title, Charlo still feels that he is not to his level. And with Canelo Alvarez potentially vacating the super title, he wants to fight Plant for the title.

In fact, he would take that fight over a fight against Alvarez or David Benavidez.

“You got a different hunger in Jermall Charlo, and that’s the fight I want and the one I’m going to have,” he said. “I’d rather fight for my legacy than Benavidez because he’s the so-called ‘Mexican Monster’ and Canelo because he’s Canelo. He’s an all-time great or whatever. I feel me and Caleb Plant would be a better fight than Canelo or Benavidez.”

“He Don’t Hit Hard”

Meanwhile, Charlo did not also forego an opportunity to trash Plant. Talking to Sean Zittel, Charlo reminisced about getting slapped by Plant, revealing that he isn’t a very hard hitter.

“He don’t hit hard. He knows that. That’s why he don’t want me to beat him. He don’t want me to fight him. It’s a mind thing, bro. Look, we’re going to fight regardless. Me and Caleb Plant are going to fight next. You’re saying Caleb is younger than me? He looks old. I thought he was older than that,” he said.
