Add FightsATW on GoogleWBC interim middleweight champion Jesus Ramos Jnr (24-1, 19 KOs) will not fight Saturday night in San Diego after he fell ill and was taken to the local hospital. Lance Pugmire for BoxingScene broke the news on Friday morning.
Premier Boxing Champions sent out a press release with the following regarding the incident: “The previously announced Jesus Ramos Jr. vs. Meiirim Nursultanov bout has been scratched at the weigh-in and will be rescheduled for a later date. On Thursday evening, Ramos fell ill and was taken to a hospital in the San Diego area for treatment before being released on Friday morning.”
It’s unfortunate news for Ramos Jnr, who hasn’t fought this year while recovering from a hand injury and waiting for the right time to return to the ring. At Thursday’s press conference, Ramos Jnr oozed confidence, motivated to make a statement before moving on to a big fight with Carlos Adames for the full WBC title in 2027.
Just hours before the illness, Ramos Jnr said at the press conference, “Carlos Adames is in my way of those big fights, and I have to get him out of the way. First I have to get Nursultanov out of the way,” making Saturday’s fight highly anticipated. Now the hope is that the fight gets placed on the next Sebastian Fundora fight card so that he doesn’t go the entire year without fighting.
