John Cena Announced As The Host of WrestleMania 42 on April 18 & 19 in Las Vegas, NV

It’s only been three months since John Cena had his retirement match with Gunther in Washington, D.C., and the superstar has already committed to hosting WrestleMania 42 on April 18 and 19 live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.

Cena via social media posted a video saying the following: “Ah, retired life in the sun. I’m kidding. Check out the backdrop. I’m shooting a movie for Netflix called One Attempt Remaining that you can see when it comes out. I’m also on the road…which is ironic because there is a road to WrestleMania going on and Hollywood is really close to Vegas. Rumor around this town is that WrestleMania needs a host. Well, I’m already on that road so I will see you at WrestleMania.”

The WWE’s decision to bring Cena back to host WrestleMania 42 is another sign of real concerns about ticket sales and interest in the event. Since tickets went on sale for WrestleMania, the WWE has faced significant public backlash over absurdly high-ticket prices. Since then, the WWE has offered discounts on individual and group tickets to regain public interest and encourage more people to buy tickets.

Having Cena host WrestleMania shows that, despite having many stars on their roster, they still rely on these types of cameos to sell the event at the price point they set. Will the executives at TKO finally recognize this as a sign that their current approach isn’t sustainable? Probably not, as they will likely keep doing business as usual, especially if most fans continue to support the product.

Will Cena’s now announced appearance boost ticket sales? Only time will tell, but for the fans attending WrestleMania, they get to see the “Never seen, seventeen” one more time.
