Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Vows to ‘End’ Jake Paul’s Career

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) has a vision for Jake Paul’s (11-1, 7 KOs) career, and it’s not pretty.

‘La Leyenda Continua’ is currently gearing up to face the American influencer-turned-boxer in a 10-round cruiserweight bout in Anaheim, CA, on June 28. With barely a week left for the fight, he surely has his sights set on decimating Paul’s career.

On his latest appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Helwani admitted that he strongly believed that he was a better boxer than Paul.

“Yes. You know, I still think that I’m better than Jake Paul, so I think after this fight, maybe Jake continues to fight and tries to be a better boxer, but I don’t think he has the skills and everything to win the fight. Yes, I want to end Jake Paul’s career,” he said.

Chavez Jr was last seen dishing out a decision victory against Uriah Hall last July. Meanwhile, Paul last fought boxing legend Mike Tyson in a controversial and lackluster showdown in November, a fight which was widely slammed by many critics and fans.

With the stark differences in their calibers as fighters and with Chavez Jr being a far more experienced fighter, one can’t deny that there is a high possibility that he just might turn his statements into a reality.

“I want to make it clear that I’m still here. I’m not old, and I take this sport seriously. I train hard. I’m disciplined. I’m 39, so I don’t think I’m old,” he said. “Now I’m disciplined, I’m focused, I want to finish the fight with Paul with a win and take this opportunity to be back in real boxing. That’s my goal.”

“I Can See Redemption”

It sure looks like Chavez Jr has the support of many notable names in the world of boxing, and Oscar De La Hoya happens to be one of them. Talking on Power 106, De La Hoya anticipated the Paul fight to be the start of Chavez Jr’s redemption arc.

“I can see redemption, you know, because he’s had a tough life, he’s had a difficult life, you know, being the son of the father and then the expectations, the pressure,” he said. “I’ve talked to the father, and he says, ‘Look if my son shows up to the ring the way I’ve seen him in the last few months,’ I think he said last six, seven months, he goes ‘Yeah he’s gonna knock out Jake Paul.’”
