Add FightsATW on GoogleJunior middleweight Alejandro Silva has announced himself as Argentina’s next big puncher, stopping his 10th straight opponent dating back to 2021.
Silva recorded a third-round technical knockout over Daniel Valdivia on Tuesday, June 2, at the Plaza Mariachi in Nashville, Tennessee. The win earned Silva the vacant WBC USA junior middleweight title.
Silva, 26-0 (21 KOs), might be a ways away from being compared to the likes of Carlos Monzon, but is resembling fellow countrymen Lucas Matthysse, Marcos Maidana, and Brian Castano. Even more fascinating is that during his recent knockout run, Silva has not made it out of the fourth round, despite bouts being scheduled for eight and 10 rounds.
Argentina is known for rugged power punchers, and now the hope among those around Silva is that he can encapsulate the newest era of a great run of boxers. Despite being under the radar, he is taking to heart the adage, ‘good things come to those who wait,’ as he continues to hone his craft while looking to challenge the best in the division.
Valdivia was heavily promoted in California’s Central Valley when Jose Ramirez rose to fame. Valdivia hit a stumbling block, losing back-to-back bouts against Vladimir Hernandez. He found himself on the reboot of “The Contender TV” TV show and lost to Marcos Hernandez and Shane Mosley Jr. He would win two fights before a hiatus from the sport. Valdivia returned in 2025 and carried a three-fight knockout streak into the bout.
For Silva, a 32-year-old from Posadas, Misiones, Argentina, it isn’t just his power in the ring, but also his activity. He has fought seven times since 2022. The win against a former title hopeful in Valdivia moves him to a new point in his career, one where he awaits opportunities and phone calls. Silva is currently ranked No. 14 by the WBC entering this fight and should improve after his latest win. An improved ranking means a chance to face the elite in the division and the best possible opposition, so he can make a strong impression on fight fans around the world.
