LAS VEGAS (August 7, 2024) – Kenneth “Bossman” Sims, Jr., will return to the ring this Saturday, August 10 in a 10-round super lightweight bout with Jair Valtierra on the undercard of Vergil Ortiz – Serhii Bohachuk. The bout is the first for the top-rated WBA contender since a May 13 world title eliminator victory over Botirzhon Akhmedov.
The former amateur standout signed with Golden Boy Promotions in May and will be making his Golden Boy debut on Saturday on the highly anticipated card. “I’m excited to be making my Golden Boy debut on a big card. I plan on making a statement with this performance,” Sims said. “It’s been over a year since I last fought so I want to remind the world that I’m a real player in the 140-pound division and I have the ability to beat anyone across the ring from me.”
Sims has been fighting for a world title opportunity in the packed 140-pound division for the past two years and he plans to reintroduce himself to the division with his performance on Saturday night. “I want a world title belt around my waist in the very near future so I know I need to go in there Saturday and dominate to stay on course for that goal,” Sims said.
He and his team held his preparatory training camp in Las Vegas in preparation for Saturday’s fight and he is primed and ready for his DAZN debut. “I can’t wait to fight on DAZN,” Sims said. “I’m excited to have this platform to display my talents.”
Sims has been watching all of the fights in his 140-pound division closely, including Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela’s win over Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz this past weekend at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. As the number one ranked fighter in the WBA’s super lightweight rankings, Sims is seeking the world title shot he and his team feel that he has earned. The Chicago native will look to use Saturday’s performance to continue to stake his claim on that long-awaited opportunity.
