Add FightsATW on GoogleLet’s look at what is at stake this week with Kyrone Davis vs. Jeison Rosario.
A fun regional matchup of fringe contenders in the middleweight division will take place at the 2300 Arena in Philly and will air for free on YouTube.
Davis (20-4-1, 6 KOs) is a solid veteran who has never quite had the chance to show his full ability, for one reason or another, as a pro. He has also spent time as a high-profile sparring partner for Canelo Alvarez.
Meanwhile, Rosario (24-5-2, 18 KOs) was a world champion but had a very quick fall from grace. All of his losses have come by knockout, and his best performance in recent memory came during his time with trainer Bob Santos ahead of the Jarrett Hurd fight in 2024.
Let’s look at this fight, which could honestly be a fun one to watch this fall.
Potential Regional Grudge Match
Close your eyes and pretend it is 2020. Forget the pandemic. Instead, remember unified titleholder Julian Williams’ homecoming title defense, which ended in disaster when Jeison Rosario upset him with a shocking stoppage.
Now, it is seven-and-a-half years later, and Davis, a former training partner of Williams, shares the same coach as Williams: Stephen ‘Breadman’ Edwards. Though Rosario is not the same fighter, he returns to the same city and faces the same coach in the rival corner, where he had his best night, which led to all his success as a pro.
There could be a mild storyline there, as it could be a little bit of a “get back” from Davis for Williams, or Rosario could be the guy with irrational confidence, thinking he will do it again.
Davis’ Last Run
Davis is a fighter who has never seen boxing’s politics work in his favor. Most recently, he defeated unbeaten Elijah Garcia. The reward: he faced the freight train that is Yoenli Hernandez after an 11-month layoff. The result: a one-sided loss that derailed his late-career resurgence and the potential excitement around his career. In June, he returned regionally, won a fight, and now faces a former champion.
With early losses to Junior Castillo and Patrick Day, a last-minute stoppage loss to David Benavidez, and the recent defeat to Hernandez, Davis remains a viable fringe contender, but at 31, the time is now. With a lack of depth at middleweight, a few wins could put him back in the position of vying for something compelling once again.
What Does Rosario Have Left?
Rosario is a former world champion. He also lost his title in the very next bout to Jermell Charlo. He was then stopped by Erickson Lubin and had to earn some lower-level wins to revive his career. Brian Mendoza stopped him, and then a slight resurgence came when he worked with trainer Santos ahead of the Hurd and Jesus Ramos Jr. fights (and Ramos still stopped him).
Rosario hasn’t fought since February 2025. He isn’t active on social media, and it’s hard to read the tea leaves about which fighter will show up. He has gradually faded into obscurity this decade after such a boisterous start to the era. To put it bluntly: this is now or never for Rosario.
What Does The Eye Test Say?
The fight comes down to passion. Both guys probably feel scorn from boxing, Davis by politics, and Rosario from whatever led to his fall from grace. Given Rosario’s lack of consistency and Davis’s proven ability to compete at a world-class level, you would have to favor him, but both guys should look at the matchup as a winnable fight.
What Do The Odds Say?
So far, I can’t find odds for the fight.
What Else You Should Know About This Card
Meet Moo Banga
My favorite bout of the night is a welterweight contest between “Moo Banga” Tyreem Haywood and Abram Martinez. Haywood has a perfect 8-0 record (8 KOs), while Martinez has an impressive win over Ruben Rodriguez but has since suffered some setback losses off-TV. It is a step-up for Haywood and shows a level of confidence most young fighters don’t have.
