Lamont Roach Jr Hopes That Devin Haney ‘Catches’ Ryan Garcia

Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KOs) wants Ryan Garcia (24-1-1, 20 KOs) to catch Devin Haney’s (31-0-1, 15 KOs) hands.

Roach is currently gearing up to challenge Gervonta “Tank” Davis for his WBA lightweight title on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Meanwhile, there have been talks in the super lightweight division about a potential rematch between Garcia and Haney following their controversial first fight. However, Roach isn’t too happy with how the first ended, especially with Garcia’s PED test fiasco. Calling him a “cheat,” Roach hopes that Haney will even things out on the streets.

Roach recently posted a video to his YouTube channel, answering questions from fans. In conversation, he delved into the Garcia vs. Haney fight and he certainly did not hold back. “I hope Devin beats up Ryan Garcia. I don’t like cheaters. Yeah, I hope Devin Haney beats him up. Honestly, I hope Devin Haney catches him in the street,” he said.

While Garcia initially won the fight, the decision was quickly overturned after he tested positive for Ostarine, a banned SARM. Roach has remained vocal about his aversion to PED usage in the sport. Moreover, he was also vocal about his displeasure with Garcia’s antics, an emotion which he further channeled in another interview.

“Ryan was on PED, so I don’t really care too much for him. He’s, you know, I don’t care too much for him; he’s racist. He takes performance-enhancing drugs. So, I could give a f*ck less about Ryan. I hope Devin Haney wins. I hope he do get that back,“ he told FightHype when asked about their potential rematch.

“We Grew Up In Boxing Together”

Meanwhile, he is also undoubtedly looking forward to fighting Davis. Talking to FightHype, he opened up about growing up in the DMV with Davis and his excitement about meeting him once again inside the ring.

“We grew up in boxing together. He rose to the top and I rose to the top. We had our different paths. But here we are, meeting again. On the biggest stage that we can get paid for to entertain the world,” he said. “It’s a testament to who we are as boxers. And how we came about on the same journey.”
