It looks like the vacant WBC lightweight title fight between Lamont Roach Jr (25-1-3, 10 KOs) and William Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs) will be officially announced soon.

According to a video interview with Zepeda’s trainer, Jay ‘Panda’ Najar, on Box Azteca, the fight has been signed for August 1. Najar said, “We are going to fight for the world title against Lamont Roach. The fight has been signed to take place on August 1. They are currently finalizing a venue in either California or Las Vegas. The fight between William Zepeda and Lamont Roach is signed, as they have agreed to everything, including the purses.”

FightsATW has learned that the fight is likely headed to Las Vegas, NV, on that date, with an announcement expected within the next couple of weeks.

This is good news for a fight that was widely reported to take place on June 20. FightsATW reported on May 5 that the fight was no longer scheduled for June and was being moved to July or August. This latest news puts the fight on the summer schedule and gives fans an intriguing bout to look forward to.

Now that the fight appears to be nearing the finish line, who will be the next WBC lightweight champion, Roach or Zepeda? It looks like we are just a couple of months away from finding out.
