‘Let Mike Get Hurt’: Mike Tyson Does Not Hold Back on His Quest for Immortality

‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs) is on a quest for immortality. Tyson had planned to relive the glory of his prime days by stepping into the ring once again with a showdown against Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs). However, after a health scare caused the fight to be postponed, many members of the boxing community and fans had expressed their concerns for his well-being. Conversely, the champ believes that people shouldn’t be very worried about him getting hurt as he will always remain a “glutton for pain.”

In an exclusive interview with Esquire, Tyson admitted that he loves chasing the adrenaline rush, a feeling he does not wish to let go of any time soon.

“I’m a glory junkie. I love people thinking about me all day. I’d rather live a short life of glory than a long life of obscurity. It’s just who I am,” he said. “This is all I started fighting for, to get all this f*cking status. I’m going to be chasing it for the rest of my life. I know that. I’m never going to get what I want because I’m one of those gluttons for pain. I can never get enough.”

Tyson was then asked about Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs), channeling the concern of the boxing community and fans. Notably, Wilder had previously mentioned that ‘Iron’ Mike was “too old” to get hurt in the fight with Paul. “Then let Mike get hurt. You don’t have to worry about paying my bills. Everyone says this makes no sense, but he’s how old?” he said. “He’s not who I am. He can’t go to Mongolia and have somebody know who the fuck he is.”

“Can I Be Honest?”

Fans have long wondered why a boxing legend like Tyson, who has conquered most of the pinnacles that the sport has to offer, took up a fight against Paul. And this was a question that he was pressed on during the interview. “Can I be honest? I don’t think he can hurt me,” he said. “I don’t think this was meant to be done by any man but me; I love it.”
