Logan Paul Is The New U.S. Champion And Is Here To Stay

Wrestling on the mainstream has always had its share of celebrities participating in matches at some of their more significant PPV events, but working as a wrestler on the roster hasn’t been seen as much until of late. Celebrities like Bad Bunny & Logan Paul have changed the way fans approach celebrities entering wrestling, which has added a new wrinkle to it. Paul has emerged into a bonified star, and the road to a WWE title began this past weekend.

At WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night, Paul pinned Rey Mysterio for the title in a match that showed how far and fast Paul has come and the trust WWE has for him. They put one of their Hall of Fame wrestlers with Paul, and the match was as successful as the bookers anticipated. Paul had his hand raised in victory and likely fulfilled a childhood dream of performing on the biggest stage for the company.

Paul signed with the WWE on June 30, 2022, and while fans raised an eyebrow at the signing, he was out to prove that he could erase the image of a celebrity looking foolish in a wrestling ring and become a star in the sport. The WWE does a great job with their market research, and it was Paul’s appearance & fans’ reaction the year before at WrestleMania that led to the multi-billionaire dollar company signing him. At the time, Paul had just finished having boxing matches with KSI and Floyd Mayweather Jr., which added to the huge profile he built on social media. Being a Gen Z guy, Paul was ready to move on to the next thing shortly after, which was the WWE.

Paul had a huge 2022 and signed a multi-year deal with the WWE in April after recovering from a knee injury. He spent some time away this summer in preparation for his boxing match with Dillon Danis but quickly returned to the WWE ring and continued his heel character. The story he jumped into was the one with Mysterio, which was perfect for his new run after spending time away doing boxing.

Paul has shown athleticism, the ability to do strong promos, and has been able to work the crowd in a way that brings him a ton of heat. All of these things take some wrestlers years to achieve, and some never do, but Paul has been able to master it quickly, which leads everyone to believe that he is here to stay and likely to get to the WWE title within the next two years. Paul and his brother Jake have taken over two different industries, and some people do not care for them, but they bring a level of star power to everything they do. The Paul Brothers don’t disrespect the sport they are in and take preparing for them seriously, so they will remain on top until they find the next thing to take over.
