Add FightsATW on GoogleLucha Libre AAA was broadcast live on FOX Deportes from the Coliseo Centenario in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, as the promotion’s biggest show of the year nears. TripleMania 34 will be a two-night event this year, and tonight’s program leaned heavily on the company’s biggest storylines with approximately four weeks left until the Friday, September 11th, and Sunday, September 13th, shows.
The ‘Lucha Libre Tournament’ kicked off on RAW this week, with Penta defeating Laredo Kidd to advance one step closer to potentially facing Roman Reigns for his heavyweight title. His opponent was decided on tonight’s episode, with La Parka and Psycho Clown’s portion of the bracket next. Outside of the in-ring action, both Dom Mysterious and El Grande Americano spoke ahead of their AAA Mega Championship main event on night two of TripleMania 34.
El Grande Americano Throws Down w/Dirty Dom
At the end of last week’s episode of ‘AAA on FOX,’ we saw Liv Morgan introduced into the program between AAA Mega champion Dom Mysterio and that of number one contender El Grande Americano. Morgan has appeared for the promotion alongside Dom in the past, but last week’s show-ending segment created a ton of buzz with fans speculating that Liv and Andrea Bazarte could amp up the drama.
Cut to the back moments after the show went live, and the AAA crew had Dom in frame making his way into the arena as El Grande Americano attacked him backstage. They brawled all the way to ringside as AAA’s GM Rey Mysterio Jr. left commentary to break up the fistfight between his main event stars. The brawl eventually broke up, but EGA cut a promo to close the segment.
He asked Dom if he thought anyone would remember him as an all-time Luchador like Blue Demon or Mil Mascaras before claiming that victory will be his at TripleMania 34.
Rey Fenix vs. Noisy Boy—AAA Cruiserweight Title
Fenix successfully defended his cruiserweight title and continued his string of banger matches, though the up-and-coming Noisy Boy fought a strong fight. Noisy Boy just missed out on his chance to challenge for the vacant Latin American title before coming up short in a triple threat match.
Noisy Boy utilized a springboard poisonrana for a near fall, but Fenix eventually hit the ‘Mexican muscle-buster’ for the win.
Penta Calls Out Roman Reigns
In the post-match, Penta grabbed the mic after ‘cornering’ his brother for his successful title defense. Penta called out Roman Reigns by name, claiming that the ‘Tribal Chief’ has never faced a wrestler like Penta. He went further by reminding fans that he does not have a ‘bloodline’ faction of family members providing cover, and still, he plans on winning the tourney and facing Roman.
Los Perros del Mal interrupted his promo as Penta stood face-to-face with the faction he used to ‘run with’ in the mid-2010s. Penta joined the faction in 2014, so it was no surprise when he hugged it out with one of the most historic groups in Lucha Libre history.
Penta was pressed on the idea of ‘not needing a family,’ and Daga offered to be there for him against Roman and his ‘Bloodline’ faction. Penta said he would ‘think on it,’ but Daga gave him until the end of the night to decide.
We returned at the end of the night for Penta’s decision, which came in the form of a backstage segment. Penta held the Perros’ shirt in his hand and said they’d always be ‘family,’ but he also said that if he were going to join up again, he needed to know there was no dead weight.
Bronco Nima took Penta’s words as a personal shot and challenged him to a match next week where if Penta wins then he is free to ‘stay on his own path,’ but if he loses then Bronco made it clear that Penta would have to put on the shirt and join Los Perros del Mal.
La Parka vs Psycho Clown—Lucha Libre AAA Tournament (Round 1)
Two of the most fan-friendly luchadores in Triple A put on a terrific match filled with competitive action. It was an exciting match that Psycho Clown seemed all but primed to win after hitting his ‘psycho driver.’ He took a minute to cover La Parka, and that hesitation might have cost him.
As Psycho Clown ‘hulked up,’ the referee went down, and that is when the lights cut out to reveal the giant masked man that has been beating on Psycho Clown for two weeks straight. The attack from the man that commentary twice called “swamp monster” gave La Parka the opening to win the match just as the ref regained consciousness.
La Parka now goes on to meet Penta in the semi-finals of the lucha tourney.
