Lucha Libre AAA ‘Rey de Reyes’ Results: Dominik Mysterio Retains AAA Mega Championship

Tonight’s Lucha Libre AAA Rey de Reyes (“King of Kings”) finale was live from the Auditorio GNP Seguros in Puebla, Mexico. The winner of tonight’s 4-way will be the 30th annual winner to be crowned the Rey de Reyes finalist and be awarded the legendary sword that comes with it, a shot at the AAA Mega Championship for the first time in tourney history—decided tonight in a match between champion Dominik Mysterio and former champ Vikingo.

The Rey de Reyes finale started with 16 other superstars wrestling in 4 separate fatal four-ways, though 138 luchadores have had the honor of competing in the tournament since its inception in 1997.

Dominik Mysterio(c) V El Hijo del Vikingo—AAA Mega Championship

By the time they entered the ring, the two men knew who they would have to face next as champion (see below for Rey de Reyes finale result). That said, there was no looking past this rematch of their 2025 classic as the ‘big match feel’ was evident.

The two men sized each other up at first, displaying Dom’s massive height advantage, though Vikingo had ‘two birds’ for him to begin the match before they both eventually grabbed kendo sticks—briefly. The challenger nailed Dom with a chair to the forehead as he worked an ultra-heel style in the match, taking advantage of every corner he could cut.

After Vikingo’s ringside manager got involved, Omos decided to come down to the ring and put some work in on Dom, whom he chokedslammed with the ‘pause-hold.’ Mini Vikingo, the 17-year-old brother of Vikingo, came down to throw Dom the assist as the two used steel chairs on Omos like they were chopping down a giant oak tree.

Dom was able to pick up the victory after Mini Vikingo helped even the odds and send the crowd home happy—Dom ended the show looking massively over as a face, further confusing the face/heel dynamics between shows.

PENTA TO DEFEND WWE IC TITLE IN AAA?!?!

Rey Fenix was first out on the mic tonight, hyping up the crowd ahead of crowning the new Rey de Reyes winner. His job was to bring out his brother, the Intercontinental Champion, Penta, for his scheduled promo.

Penta thanked the crowd before reminding them that the Lucha Bros reunion was ruined previously in a situation where Rey Mysterio Jr. was forced to cover for the injured Penta. He then teased a second attempt at the reunion within the Triple A brand, specifically naming Triple Mania as a possible return.

He sold the idea of coming back to Puebla as the solidified Lucha Bros team before commenting on the 29-year tradition of Rey de Reyes.

That is when he made the biggest announcement, claiming he would defend his IC title in Triple A territory in Mexico, along with his Monday Night RAW mandatory defenses. This was something that Penta had previously promised, claiming he would ‘bring the title back to Mexico,’ and while it was not clear what that meant at the time, we can see the ‘global vision’ Penta apparently has for the title.

LA Parka vs (OG) El Grande Americano vs Santos Escobar vs El Grande Americano (Ludwig)—Fatal Four-Way (Rey de Reyes Final)

This was the fourth time that Puebla played host to the Rey de Reyes finals, and the truck prepared a ‘Royal Rumble ‘-esque video package delivering on numbered factoids surrounding the historic tourney.

With all the firsts mentioned, it was glossed over that two WWE guys were competing in the finals for the first time. It was interesting to see the OG version of the Americano character get booed. In contrast, the ‘Ludwig’ version comes across as a face, unlike their experience on the main WWE roster.

Santos Escobar might be from a famous wrestling family, but a victory would make him the first in his family to win the famous tourney, as mentioned in the promo package. As for the LA Parka character, the promotion doubled down on the character’s past association with the tournament—claiming a win tonight would give him 6 Rey de Reyes finale wins.

The match was smooth with a solid pace in action, and it even delivered on some one-on-one Americano V Americano physicality. There was a moment when all four men were in the center ring with both Americano characters locked into submission attempts on LA Parka and Escobar, respectively.

A triple belly to back suplex from OG Americano onto Escobar– who hit his on LA Parka–sent the match into the match’s final 1/3 just as LA Parka hit a ‘Spanish Fly’ on OG Americano. There was a decent portion of the match that turned into an ‘anything you can do’ between the two Americano characters.

Then, in a nod to what OG Americano did to the Ludwig version weeks back, the fake Americano ordered his faction of masked minions to handcuff the ‘Chad Gable’ version. This happened shortly before a man in Escobar’s old mask took out Santos with a chair.

El Grande Americano (Ludwig) picked up the win with the OG watching on, handcuffed amongst the fans.

FLAMMER OPEN CHALLENGE (BAYLEY)—AAA Reina de Reinas Championship

It was announced that Flammer would defend her title in an open challenge, and while WWE/NXT talent have previously crossed the street into AAA, it was a huge surprise when Bayley answered the call. The first-time grand slam winner, and “first ballot Hall of Famer” as she was announced on commentary, Bayley was on the receiving end of a huge ovation from the Mexican crowd.

Bayley earned an opportunity to face AJ Lee for the women’s IC title by winning a gauntlet match on RAW, and that match is scheduled for this Monday’s episode. So, this was a huge moment for Bayley to capitalize on with the hopes of walking into your title challenge with a strap already around your waist—it has to be a huge confidence boost.

Flammer came into this match one day away from breaking the record for longest Reina de Reinas title reign in promotion history, so it certainly was a gamble on the part of the champ. However, the gamble that they would have excellent chemistry paid off, as both women worked together as if they had been on the same ‘brand’ for years.

Bayley’s veteran ability allowed her to blend her style effortlessly with Flammer’s, and, to the champion’s credit, she worked as a superstar who has been to the ‘highest heights.’

The champ managed to hang on to her title after some timely interference from Las Toxicas’ own Lady Maravilla.
