Add FightsATW on GoogleLucha Libre TripleMania 34 Night-Two was live from the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, featuring the highly anticipated main event title fight between AAA Mega Champion Dom Mysterio and #1 contender El Grande Americano. El Grande Americano walked into the match with the momentum of a potential ‘ Wrestler of the Year’ award winner after his ‘Mask V Mask’ match against Chad Gable earlier this year.
As El Grande secured his shot at the title, Dom ran into a string of losses while looking more vulnerable than he has since his own generational run started. Night one ended with Omos successfully defeating Rey Mysterio Jr., Triple A’s General Manager, in a match with his reinstatement on the line. After being suspended for some time, Omos was reinstated in time to help Dom in the main event.
Dominik Mysterio (c) vs El Grande Americano; AAA Mega Championship
It started violently and unsanctioned as Dom Mysterio and El Grande Americano began the match on the outside, with steel stairs and chairs smashing into backs and skulls around ringside. They eventually made their way in the ring and wrestled a solid singles match while it lasted.
The whole thing eventually turned into a schmoz with Omos making his expected interference spot and Los Americanos attempting to keep the numbers game fair. Liv Morgan eventually got involved, hitting El Grande’s leg off the top turnbuckle. The ref bump came moments later as the match erupted into utter chaos.
El Grande Americano rallied to hit a spinning elbow as Dom lay flat for the count with no referee in sight, but that is when Rey Mysterio Jr., donning a neck brace and referee pinstripes, came in to count the 1-2-3 for the challenger.
El Grande Americano won the Triple A Mega Championship with a full mariachi band dressed in all white, matching the new champ’s ring gear, serenading his celebration as the show faded to black.
Rey Fenix (c) vs Jack Cartwheel vs Mini Vikingo vs Nathan Frazer—Fatal Four-Way; AAA Cruiserweight Championship
The moment this match was announced, it had ‘show stealer’ all over it, with Rey Fenix, Jack Cartwheel, Mini Vikingo, and Nathan Frazer all being incredible talents separately, but together they produced one of the most entertaining fatal four-ways of the year.
There were double-team spots, reversals, and high-risk moves galore, and it was an especially impressive showing from Frazer, who has seen the least exposure of the four superstars. He hit a ‘Spanish Fly’ from the top turnbuckle only to hit back-to-back tope suicidas into a senton onto the champ. Fenix managed to regain his composure by getting his suplex from the top, but Frazer caught him with a super kick for a near fall.
Frazer was taken out of the match after a high-risk maneuver didn’t pay off, hitting the commentator’s table as he leaped from the outside. He later came back to hit an incredible Phoenix Splash for another near fall. This time, Cartwheel managed to pick up the near fall by taking advantage of the busy work.
Fenix ended up successfully defending the title, retaining by pinfall, but Perros Del Mal jumped everyone in the match as they hoisted their newly won AAA 6-man tag titles. They cut a promo asserting their dominating position within the roster.
El Carnicero V Psycho Clown—Mexican Street Fight
This feud kicked off several weeks back when El Carnicero attacked Psycho Clown in consecutive matches, emerging from the fans. After beating on Psycho Clown, the two were forced to settle things with kendo sticks and trash cans in a ‘Mexican Street Fight.’ The match climaxed with Psycho Clown tied up in the ropes while Pagano came down to make the save, but he instead turned on Psycho Clown after their relationship deteriorated over the summer.
Pagano turned, and that allowed El Carnicero to capitalize on the win, and the two threw him a beatdown in the post-match for good measure.
Flammer (c) vs La Catalina; Reina De Reinas Championship
The longest-reigning Reina de Reinas champion, Flammer, has been on a generational run, beating everyone AAA had to offer, along with WWE vets Natalia and Bayley. La Catalina represents the new crop of talent, a brash superstar who called her shot on the night she debuted for Triple A. The upstart was confident enough that her time would come that she interrupted a segment celebrating Flammer’s title reign.
Lillian Garcia handled the announcing duties for this match, adding to its magnitude. Catalina was vibrant on screen, sporting her pinkish-red hair and a magenta-and-electric-blue color scheme on her gear, complete with furry boots.
They kept most of the match between the ropes, and even when they found themselves outside the ring, they quickly made their way back in as they traded fast-paced offense and high-risk maneuvers.
After trading offensive sequences in the match’s climax, Flammer was able to hit a violent baseball slide-kick, but Catalina was able to survive long enough that she was able to pin the champ. Catalina was able to pick up her first gold since debuting in AAA—she’ll have some huge shoes to fill.
The War Raiders (c) vs The Wagner Brothers; AAA Tag Team Titles
Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Geleno del Mal competed against The War Raiders for Erik and Ivar’s Triple A tag team titles. The War Raiders have been on quite the run, even successfully defending their titles against Damian Priest and R-Truth—a loss for the challengers that led to Priest turning on Truth.
This beefy battle was stiff, though Ivar hit a moonsault from the top turnbuckle that really popped the crowd. The champs worked a tag-centric style that kept the challengers on their toes throughout.
Several double-team moves nearly ended the match, but Geleno hit the no-tag, hot-tag that led directly to the challengers winning the tag team titles.
15-Man Copa Bardahl
The match started traditionally, with two men kicking off as different superstars entered at intervals, though the means of elimination differed from a traditional battle royal. In this match, being eliminated meant pinfall, submission, and, yes, over the top rope.
Mr. Iguana and Abismo Negro Jr. started the match with the reptile man getting the best offense of the first interval, capped off by a tilt-a-whirl into a submission armbar. The spectrum of luchadores in this match ran the gamut, even including a dwarf wrestler in Mascarita Sagrada.
It wasn’t until El Fiscal entered at number 6 that we finally got the first elimination; in fact, two nearly back-to-back—both over the top rope. With the field thinning, Laredo Kid entered the contest to a major pop, though Mecca Wolf seemed to have the most heat with the live crowd.
Dinamico was pinned before the next entrant appeared after mist to the face allowed for Wolf and Mesias to put him down just before Texano Jr. entered at twelve. However, the very next entrant would be the 7’3″ Omos at lucky 13, where he replayed last year’s spot with Mascarita, in which they sized each other up before the other entrants all attacked the giant.
After Omos dominated for a bit, he was left to face off against Mr. Iguana and Mascarita just before Chris Carter entered the match, much to the amusement of Omos. The wiry, thin Wrestler was hoisted over the head of Omos before being thrown out over the top onto the remaining competitors.
By the time the 15th and final entrant, Nino Hamburgesa, nearly won the match as Mascarita nearly eliminated Omos, though he survived long enough to eliminate Hamburgesa to become the ‘Copa Bardahl.’
