Marc Ramsay’s far-reaching international stable, which includes Artur Beterbiev and Christian Mbilli, welcomes Belarusian lightweight Dzmitry Asanau to his Montreal-based gym.
Asanau (7-0, 3 KOs) makes his Canadian debut against Argentina’s Alexis Gabriel Camejo with new promoter Eye of the Tiger on the Christian Mbilli-Sergiy Derevyanchenko undercard Saturday night at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City. Following a two-year period to begin his career fighting in the relative obscurity of Hamburg, Germany, Ramsay believes it was a “no-brainer” to sign Asanau.
“He’s a very good fighter, and we already know that he had a great amateur career,” Ramsay said exclusively to FightsATW. “It was a no-brainer for us to sign him. He’s very disciplined and is a good kid. I had the chance to work with him for two weeks to see the guy’s profile and see how he works. It gives me a better idea of what type of human being he is, after that, like I said, it was a no-brainer.”
28-year-old Asanau claimed a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2015 and a silver at the European Games the same year. Gold medals at the 2019 European Games and the World Military Boxing Championship in 2021 rounded off an impressive amateur career. “He has all the tools to succeed as a professional fighter,” Ramsay added. “He’s a great technician. We were all very excited here in Montreal about us signing Dzmitry. I spoke to Camille Estephan about the ability he has, and I recommended him to the company.
“When we sign a fighter, it’s because we believe he will make it to the end of the road, but there are a lot of challenges on that road; we will see. Because of his age, weight category, amateur experience, and the fact he’s already has a ten-rounder in the bank, we are going to know soon if he can become a champion. We are not going to waste our time with six-round fights. We want him in good fights quickly.”
