‘Max Out Everything’: Montez Ford Opens Up About His Mother’s Advice

The stage is set, the lights are blazing, the ropes are firm, and the fans are watching as wrestling’s biggest event makes its annual comeback with WrestleMania XL. Montez Ford is prepping to charm WWE fans with a potentially explosive performance in the six-man Tag Team Philadelphia Street Fight. With merely days remaining for the highly anticipated showdown, Ford opened up about his mother’s advice and the forces that drive his performance.

Ford and his wife, as well as WWE star Bianca Belair, were recently in attendance at The Pivot Podcast hosted by NFL stars Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder. The duo was asked about the driving forces behind their careers in conversation.

In response, Ford admitted, “Mine is ego.”

“No I think, it’s also like just, my mom and my parents always told me to max out everything. I said if you max out everything, even if you get denied, at least consciously you know you tried your best,” he continued.

Ford further mentioned that maxing out guaranteed he put his 100 percent into everything he did. Which, in turn, often turned out to be better than another individual’s 99 percent or even 100 percent effort.

“Consciously, you’ll feel better about it. I remember even from the first sports I was playing, whether it was soccer, basketball, football, wrestling, like always told me to max out. If you max out, do your best, you can see the bar in which you need to improve,” Ford said. He also added that maxing out will teach an individual who they are and show them the direction they should take.

“We’re not having it”

Ford will set the stage on fire as a member of “The Pride” along with Angelo Dawkins and Bobby Lashley. The WWE initially portrayed the team as villains. However, late last year, the trio did a 360 with the redemption of their heroic personalities.

Regarding the heel turn, Ford mentioned that fans had a major role in their character shifts.

“A couple of months ago, we were trying to, make the fans not like us. They just said, ‘Nah, we’re not having it,’” he said on the latest episode of Busted Open. “When the fans are passionate about something, when they want something, when they demand it, for the most part, they’re so intent with it. You know that passion is real because it comes from the heart. They have every right to feel that way.”
