The Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) exhibition tour continued on Saturday night in Mexico City, MX, as he dominated John Gotti III (2-0, 1 KO) for eight rounds. Although there was no winner, Gotti III appeared way out of his league, especially against an all-time great like Mayweather.
Mayweather took it easy in the first round but showed glimpses of his old self with some good counter overhand rights and keeping his distance with a left jab. Gotti III really didn’t do much throughout the round and only landed a handful of punches. In the second round, after the referee warned Mayweather about rabbit punches, Mayweather started mouthing off to the referee, which caused a pause in the fight. Then, the referee complained to the commission, and the commission switched the referee and continued the round. Mayweather returned to throwing his left jab, and the round was quickly over.

Mayweather threw a few combinations in the third round that backed Gotti III against the ropes with no return fire from the bigger fighter. Mayweather would then throw a punch here and there while smiling at Gotti III.
Gotti III tried to apply pressure in the fourth round, but Mayweather, still being the high IQ fighter, did not allow any of the punches being thrown at him to land. Mayweather would land a few combinations but nothing that would hurt Gotti III. Mayweather continued to make things look easy in the fifth round as Gotti III could not find a way to penetrate Mayweather’s defense. Gotti III did land a nice left hook, but that was the only clean shot that landed throughout the round. In the sixth round, Mayweather began to walk down Gotti III, but the punches weren’t thrown with any real authority.
The seventh and eighth rounds were Mayweather flicking his left jab and throwing an occasional overhand right. After the fight, Julio Cesar Chavez went into the ring to fuel a potential exhibition against Mayweather, but after exchanging compliments, Mayweather turned down the offer.
