‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) recently dished out an impressive victory in his fight against Mike Perry (0-2). Now, as his fight against the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-6-2, 44 KOs) is inches closer, Perry has a rather interesting prediction about the fight’s potential outcome. With Perry being the last man who faced Paul inside the ring, there is reason to believe that his prediction just might come true.
Perry recently joined his former opponent, Paul, as a guest on his podcast B/S with Jake Paul. In conversation, the Youtuber turned boxer asked him about his thoughts on his upcoming fight against Tyson.
“I think you win. I think you’re younger, and I think you’re doing the right things as far as what your team has you doing, it works. I wasn’t able to add anything up on you. I wasn’t able to have you punch yourself out,” he said. “I wasn’t able to get you on the ropes where I could release a flurry, and at 58, Mike’s age is something I’m thinking about.”
Paul, on the other hand, admitted that he has been having a hard time earning people’s respect. “What people don’t see is me beating top 5 ranked guys in the gym, me beating former champions in the gym,” Paul said. “People still don’t respect me. No matter what I do, they are always going to hate.”
“It Degrades Him”
However, not everyone is in tune with the idea of Paul fighting Tyson. In fact, boxing legend Bernard Hopkins believes that Paul fighting Tyson is disrespectful to his legacy.
Talking to FightHub, Hopkins revealed that the boxing community looks up to Tyson the same way that the people of his era looked up to Muhammad Ali. Moreover, he mentioned that it was degrading for Tyson to be a part of such a ‘sideshow.’ “I won’t watch it. I could watch two turtles race and be more excited … It’s because of how I look at Mike Tyson. I shared not only the ring with Mike Tyson a few times but the era. Right? A little tip of the era. I just think it degrades him,” he said.
