Add FightsATW on GoogleSaul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) is most likely in the line of incoming smoke from Most Valuable Promotions(MVP).
The highly anticipated showdown between Alvarez and Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is on, once again, much to the joy of boxing fans. When the fight was formerly called off, there were talks that Alvarez would instead be facing YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) in what would potentially have become an iconic spectacle. And now, with that fight showing no signs of taking place anytime soon, MVP, which handles Paul’s fights, sent out a rather incendiary memo, calling out promoters and the media for their “hidden agendas.”

In what could only be described as an unexpected turn of events, it was announced that Alvarez had signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. This, in turn, meant that the Paul fight was off the books, and Alvarez would be fighting Crawford in September.
MVP sent out a memo revealing that they were “deep in negotiations” with Alvarez for a blockbuster event on the Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas. Moreover, they expressed their displeasure with the turn of events. “MVP operates with integrity, transparency, and respect for the sport, its athletes, and the fans. Unfortunately, not everyone in the boxing world shares those values,” the promotion wrote. “This situation is a reminder not to believe everything you read.”
MVP further urged that the media environment was operated by individuals with hidden agendas and called out promoters for having reporters on their payroll. The promotion also revealed that they’re in talks with high-profile competitors to make the biggest fights a reality. “Jake Paul isn’t going anywhere, and neither is MVP. We’ll continue to disrupt boxing on our terms,” they wrote.
“Owned Slave”
On the other hand, Paul was certainly unhappy with this major turn of events. Taking to X, he minced no words in calling him an “owned slave” who has little to no respect for the pride of his people.
Breaking news: Canelo Alvarez ducked me Jake Paul and is now an owned slave with no regard for the pride of the Mexican people who support him on US soil. it’s not surprising when his whole career he has done nothing for the sport of boxing outside the ring. Paul went on to call himself “the new face of boxing” and mentioned that the biggest fights of 2025 are incomplete without his name in it. While there is no denying that the Crawford fight is a major addition to Alvarez’s career, it should also be noted that Paul undoubtedly knows how to set up major spectacles that fans wish to see.
