Natasha Jonas Was Unaware That She Was Being ‘Chased’ By Lauren Price

Natasha Jonas (16-2-1, 9 KOs) did not know that Lauren Price (8-0, 2 KOs) was eyeing a showdown with her.

The WBC and IBF female welterweight champion is currently gearing up to face the southpaw from Newport at the Royal Albert Hall in London on March 7. While the fight has excited British boxing aficionados, Jonas begs to differ.

Talking on BOXXER’s Back 2 Back, Jonas did not seem particularly excited at the prospect of fighting Price rather treating it as a chore that she had to get out of the way. Meanwhile, Price revealed that she had been chasing a Jonas fight for a while and was pleased that the fight night was inching closer.

“I didn’t know I was in a race. I didn’t know I was getting chased. But I understand why she was chasing me because I was a big thing for her. I just don’t feel the same, the other way around,” Jonas responded. The fight is not a “personal” affair for Price, as Jonas had thought. Calling it a “fight that made sense,” Price mentioned that she does not blame her for not wanting the fight as much.

But she made it clear that, with both of them being world champions, it only makes sense for the best fighters to face each other. Jonas, on the other hand, does not believe that Price is a fighter of her caliber. “I think she’s had a good career. I just think she’s stepped up on paper and not to any one of our level,” she said.

“The Fight That’s Personal”

Jonas certainly has an opponent in mind that she’d consider a “personal” affair on fight night, Katie Taylor. However, getting to Taylor will undoubtedly be an arduous journey, with Price as a sturdy obstacle.

“I think the fight that’s personal is Katie (Taylor). Beat Lauren and whoever comes next – Mayer and Ryan are fighting, whoever wins that fight, that’s for undisputed for us then,” she said while talking to Sky Sports. “Or go and fight Katie for undisputed. The two options are undisputed after that fight. Then that’s pretty much me. But I’ve got to get past Lauren first.”
