Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal: Who Wins?

Nate Diaz will take on Jorge Masvidal on Saturday in a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The pair clashed in the UFC 244 main event on November 2, 2019, at New York’s Madison Square Garden, for the mythical Baddest Motherfuc*** (BMF) title, which Masvidal won via TKO on cuts.

Diaz and Masvidal, two of UFC’s biggest stars of their era, have since parted ways with the promotion. Diaz was a free agent, and Masvidal announced his retirement last year. However, he had to seek approval from the UFC to take this fight as he was still under contract. Diaz, 39, made his pro boxing debut last August when Jake Paul dropped him en route to a unanimous decision loss.

Masvidal, who is also 39, has one pro boxing bout on his résumé. However, that fight took place nearly two decades ago. Masvidal defeated Joseph Benjamin in a four-round majority decision on June 28, 2005, at the Radisson Plaza Mart Hotel in Miami.

This will be a one-sided win for Jorge Masvidal. Even in the MMA world, Masvidal was always seen as the superior puncher compared to Diaz, an elite grappler and wrestler. Even when Diaz was able to use those skills, he got schooled. Will it be any different with an additional handicap? Yes, Masvidal will beat him worse this time around. Diaz can take a punch, but as we noted, he’s susceptible to getting cut. I’ll take Masvidal with the seventh-round TKO.
