Netflix Announced Tyson Fury vs Anthony Set For December 11 in Cardiff, Wales

The fight that boxing circles have been discussing for the past ten years will take place on Friday, December 11, live and exclusively on Netflix. Tyson Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) will face Anthony Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) at Principality Stadium, which can hold up to 80,000 spectators for a boxing event for the WBA ‘super’ heavyweight title.

On Thursday morning, Netflix sent out a press release officially announcing the fight and confirming that the press conference is set for September 30 in London. The chairman of the General Entertainment Authority for Saudi Arabia, Turki Alalshikh, had this to say about the announced fight: “This will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. I am very happy to make this fight happen for the fans.”

This announcement comes after months of public and private negotiations between the teams of Fury and Joshua. After Fury’s last fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov, Fury and Alalshikh invited Joshua into the ring for a face-off while he was sitting ringside. To everyone’s surprise, Joshua declined, and it was later learned that he hadn’t signed the contract to face Fury at that time, so he didn’t want to create a false impression.

Joshua then signed an agreement, but it was for the fight to take place in England. That became an issue when reports began to circulate that Alalshikh, but more so Netflix, wanted the fight to occur at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, then came out publicly stating that the fight taking place in New York was a violation of the agreement and that he was going to stick to his point and not budge from staging the fight in the U.K. This went on for weeks, and then more recently, Hearn had an issue with the timing of the drug test being different for Fury and Joshua.

Now that Netflix has announced the fight and scheduled a press conference, it appears to be all water under the bridge. All that is left is for Fury and Joshua to face off in London, which will kick off the promotional push for what will be the biggest fight in England’s history.
