‘Out of My Control’, Jermall Charlo Posts on Social Media After Not Being Allowed in Australia

Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) was looking forward to making his mark on Australian soil on the Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) vs Tim Tszyu (27-3, 18 KOs) card. But when his quest was cut short due to an unfortunate visa denial, the former world champion did not keep quiet.

After the denial, posting on social media, Charlo expressed his disappointment, stating that the matter was out of his hands.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to fight next Saturday. I’ve been training nonstop for the last three months and was ready to make a statement. I want to apologize to all my fans and let them know I will keep training and be back on a PBC event very soon,” he wrote.

Charlo was scheduled to face the Australian Koen Mazoudier in the co-main event in Sydney. The fight was meant to be Charlo’s second bout since ending a long period of inactivity and was seen as a stepping stone toward bigger fights later in the year.

While the government has not publicly detailed its reasoning, multiple reports indicate the decision was related to Charlo’s prior legal history, including a 2022 assault arrest and a 2024 DUI case. Australia has strict character requirements for temporary visa applicants and certain criminal matters can lead to visa refusal. According to Charlo, he and his team made multiple attempts to secure approval and expressed frustration with the decision, but the promotion was ultimately forced to cancel the fight.

“Australian government, out of my control. I will stay focused and locked in he said,” he added requesting fans to wait for PBC’s updates.

When Mazoudier was informed by Fox News over the phone about the turn of events, he seemed surprised but chose to remain focused.

“Is that official? I’ve heard he was having trouble with his visa, but from everything we had been told he was going to get in. We had been told both the fighter and has coach were confident …. but it’s been confirmed he isn’t getting in?” he said. “F***, that’s so disappointing. That’s gut wrenching. But I’m sure the No Limit boys will put somebody in front of me. And for now, until I get official confirmation from them, the mission stays the same. But yeah, if true it’s really disappointing. But it’s also nothing I can change.”
