Rocha vs Dominguez Fight Results: Rocha Scores UD

This was supposed to be the fight where Alexis Rocha (25-2, 16 KOs) proves he is ready for the big names in the welterweight division, but instead, more questions were generated as he had a tough time with his opponent Santiago Dominguez (27-1, 20 KOs). All three judges scored this one for Rocha (98-92, 99-91 & 99-91), but it was a harder fight than many anticipated throughout fight week.

Dominguez came out charging in the opening round, as it appeared Rocha was not expecting that from his opponent early on. Rocha was mostly moving backward as Dominguez charged in, throwing combinations to the body and head. Rocha made some adjustments and had Dominguez moving backward, but it was good back and forth action throughout the second round. In the third round, Rocha continued to make adjustments with his feet as he moved to his sides when Dominguez would charge in while spinning his opponent and landing four punch combinations. Dominguez continued his aggressive offense throughout the round.

The fourth round picked up where the third round left off as both men were going blow for blow just inside mid-range. The feeling was that Rocha got the better of the exchanges as Dominguez’s face began to show the effects of Rocha’s punches. The fifth round brought the level of action down a few notches as both fighters were catching their breaths and making the proper in-ring adjustments. Despite it being a slow round, Rocha continued to chip away at Dominguez.

Rocha continued to press forward in the sixth round, throwing left hooks to the body and straight lefts to Dominguez’s head. Rocha was changing the level of his punches which allowed him to get through Dominguez’s defense. Dominguez brought the fight back to Rocha in the seventh round and landed some big four-punch combinations. Rocha landed a huge right hook to Dominguez’s body, which sent him a few steps back to catch his breath, but Rocha could not capitalize on the moment.

After Rocha had a solid seventh round, Dominguez came back and had a good eighth round, where Rocha was sent back to the ropes after being hit with some combinations to the head. The ninth round was likely hard to score officially as both fighters had equal moments throughout the round. Rocha had his way through the first half, while Dominguez finished the last part of the round strongly with some combinations that buzzed Rocha. They ended the fight exactly how they had started, which was going blow for blow. Rocha earned the unanimous decision and will now look to Golden Boy to see what is next for him.

Gregory Morales Earns Hard Fought Unanimous Decision Victory

Featherweight Gregory Morales (17-1, 9 KOs) had to work hard for it but fought his way towards a unanimous decision over Jayvon Garnett (10-2, 5 KOs). The judges saw this one 96-94, 98-92 & 99-91 for Morales.

Morales and Garnett began the fight quickly, wanting to establish their distance immediately. When Garnett landed his right hook on Morales’ body, Morales would come right back with a left hook to the head. Morales put together some good combinations to the body. Garnett began to stay in the pocket too long in the second round, allowing Morales to get his punches off. Garnett landed some clean combinations, but they were few and far between.

Morales was trying to land one shot at a time in the third round as Garnett was using smart footwork and keeping his distance at mid-range. Garnett landed the cleaner punches while frustrating Morales throughout the round. In the fourth round, Garnett slowed down a bit as Morales kept working the body. Garnett and Morales would have their showboating moments throughout the round, but Garnett began to make Morales swing wildly. The fifth round consisted of Morales following Garnett around the ring and missing with his big punches and only landing in spots. Garnett was doing more showboating than landing anything significant but did land in spots.

Morales kept waiting for the perfect punch in the sixth round while Garnett circled him, landing one eye-catching punch at a time. In the seventh round, Morales concentrated more on the body, and you can tell it affected Garnett as he slowed down even more. The eighth round belonged to Morales as he began to land some big punches and impose his will on Garnett. It seemed like Morales’s bodywork earlier in the fight paid dividends throughout the round.

As Garnett showed signs of fading, Morales kept his foot on the gas and applied a ton of pressure while working the body. Morales continued to overwhelm Garnett and finished the fight strong.

Grant Flores Scores Crushing 2nd Round TKO

Super welterweight Grant Flores (6-0, 5 KOs) was just levels above his opponent Juan Meza (4-6, 3 KOs), and it showed as he stopped him in the second round of their fight. Flores came out in the first round, throwing all of his arsenal, but Meza did not appear to be on the same level. Flores landed a straight right hand that knocked Meza back to the ropes. In the second round, Flores landed a straight right hand that sent Meza to the ropes and followed it up with a two-punch combination, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Flores earns his sixth career win and his fifth knockout.

Jorge Chavez Scored UD Victory over Riku Kitani

Both fighters began the first round quickly, but it was Chavez who landed a hard left hook which shook up Kitani. Although he was buzzed, Kitani showed good movement throughout the round. In the second round, Kitani’s movement was giving Chavez issues as he couldn’t land clean shots and was following him around the ring. Finally, towards the end of the round, Chavez landed some big straight right hands that would stop Kitani in his tracks.

Chavez dedicated his attack to the body in the third round in order to slow down Kitani, whose movement was giving him some trouble. Chavez was able to land left hooks to the body, which opened up the straight right hand for him to the head. In the fourth round, blood started to trickle down from the corner of Kitani’s right eye, which appeared to be from a clash of heads. Rounds five and six were all Chavez, who was bringing the pressure leading to the unanimous decision victory.

Bryan Lua Scores 5th Round TKO To Open Up DAZN Telecast

Lightweight Bryan Lua (10-0, 5 KOs) scored a fifth-round TKO over Diuhl Olguin (16-39-7, 10 KOs) to open up the DAXN telecast. Olguin’s corner asked to stop the fight as they saw their fighter taking too much punishment.

Lua began the fight a little too aggressively in the first round, as he was missing wildly during some instances. When he did connect, Olguin felt it. In the second round, Lua kept shooting out his left jab but wasn’t seeing success with his other punches. He had his chin up high and was following Olguin around the ring. Once Lua switched to southpaw, that’s when he started to see success with his combinations.

The third round saw Lua start in the conventional stance and begin landing the left and right hook to the body. Again, it wasn’t until he switched to southpaw that he saw success with his combinations. The left hook by Lua began to get through Olguin’s defense in the fourth round, but Lua failed to stay in the southpaw stance, which was seeing him succeed with his punches. Lua started pouring it on in the fifth round before the CSAC official stopped it after being advised by Olguin’s corner.
