Boxing phenom Ryan Garcia has become the talk of the town after his sensational knockout against Oscar Duarte on Saturday, which earned him the vacant WBA Gold super lightweight title. While many fighters in the division are looking for a slice of the Garcia dough. The champ has his eyes set on a showdown against the WBA super lightweight titleholder, Rolando Romero, and it looks like ‘Rolly’ agrees that the fight would be a big deal.
“I’m committing to becoming a world champion,” Garcia told DAZN’s Chris Mannix after his victory against Duarte. “If Rollys wants that, bring it on Rollys.”
Romero responded to this callout in a recent interview with FightHype. “I don’t think he deserves it…that’s what I say, I don’t think he deserves it. He does not deserve to share a ring with me,”he said. However, he quickly added that the fight would undoubtedly be iconic, “I’m f**king around. That’s a big fight for boxing. I can’t really say anything; that’s a big fight for boxing.”
Meanwhile, Romero revealed he wasn’t very impressed with Garcia’s recent performance and mentioned that Garcia was trying to be someone that he wasn’t. In fact, he even stated that Garcia was better off training with Joe Goossen. “Derrick James taught him some weird sh*t,” he said.
The Ryan Garcia vs Rolando Romero matchup might have to wait
The showdown between Garcia and Romero is certainly one of the division’s most sought-after fights. However, former WBC light welterweight champion, ‘Two Tanks’ Ohara Davies recently took to X to remind Garcia that the matchup would have to wait.
Hi @RyanGarcia good win – unfortunately there will be no you Vs Rollies for the belt, I am mandatory and I'm not stepping aside for love nor money, @SignUp4KOs soon I will show you how to deal with the old man. There will be no party

In a tweet, Davies congratulated Garcia for his victory while also adding that he wouldn’t be facing ‘Rolly’ for the belt. “I am mandatory, and I’m not stepping aside for love nor money, @SignUp4Kos soon I will show you how to deal with the old man,” he said. Davies was set to fight Ismael Barroso on December 2; however, the fight had to be postponed due to visa issues.
While it’s currently when, or if, the Garcia vs Romero showdown will take place, it will undoubtedly be a fight that fans look forward to.
