Ryan Garcia Admits He Does Not Want to Be Near The Viral Sparring Video

Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) hates his sparring video against Rolando “Rolly” Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) and that’s putting it lightly.

‘KingRy’ is back after a yearlong hiatus from the ring following his suspension and will face in NYC on May 2. As the fight date inches closer, their viral sparring video is the talk of the town once again, and Garcia is really not having it.

The duo recently sat down for DAZN Boxing’s Face Off, and one could surely say that the air was tense. In conversation, the host hinted that Romero had predicted, a few years prior, that he would face Garcia at 147.

“I mean, I did say that it was going to be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. Definitely, in the history of the United States, so I’m gonna look at this. I mean, even looking at the card, at how stacked it is, with Devin, and we’ve got two four-time world champions on our undercard,” he said.

Garcia, however, felt that Romero should be thanking him for the success that he had in his career. He highlighted that Romero used the lessons and moments from their viral sparring video to propel his career. Garcia even reminded him of the fact he used to bring it up very often once he became popular.

Despite the iconic video, Garcia admitted that he was annoyed that it has been perpetually around for eight years. These are words that Romero, surprisingly, agreed with, stating that he had grown “tired” of it.

This was when the host asked Garcia if the video ever bothered him.

“100 percent, yeah. Not so much like recently, but when I was first coming out, yeah, it was everywhere and it was all the time. It wasn’t like something I felt was so bad. I felt like it was a good sparring match. He had a couple of good moments. But I felt like I sparred pretty good, considering I was really low in weight at that time,” he said. “But it did bother me. It was something that I wanted to put a stake in. Like I don’t even want that to be near me.”

“Somebody’s Getting Knocked Out”

Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis recently pitched in on who he thought would emerge as the victor in the fight. ‘Tank,’ who has fought both Garcia and Romero, is certain that there’s going to be a knockout finish.

“It’s going to be a good fight. Yeah, for sure, somebody’s getting knocked out. I ain’t gonna lie, Rolly hit hard. People be sleeping on Rolly because he don’t got no chin, but Rolly can hit bro, he’s the only person I felt like when he swung, it felt like bricks was in his gloves,” he said while talking to FightHub TV.
