Fighting Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) for the WBC welterweight title is certainly a big deal, but it isn’t enticing enough to push Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) for a rematch, or so says Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs).
Talking to FightHype, Garcia highlighted that Haney has little to no interest in stepping into the ring to face him once again.
“It seems like he ain’t hyped to come out. He don’t want that. He’s been saying, ‘Oh, I don’t want to fight him.’ You don’t want to fight? Ok, I’m not going to force you to fight me. Keep your ass over there. What do I got to do?” he said. “I didn’t take no damage from that fight. He had a broken jaw. He has to get his lick back. You see my face is clean. It’s all on him. I wouldn’t wanna get back in the ring with me. PTSD.”
Their fight in 2024 wasn’t exactly remembered for the right reasons. From Garcia missing weight and the initial controversy over the decision, to his positive test for ostarine and the eventual no-contest ruling, the fallout has been as much about legal battles and public spats as it has been about what happened in the ring.

With all this drama surrounding this fight, it comes as no surprise that Haney wants no part of it. Garcia, however, isn’t letting that change his decision.
“Let him do his thing, I know he’s scared. He’s got that feat in him. I gave him that fear, and that sh*t is still hitting his heart. When he sees me, I know he’s like, ‘F*ck. There’s something else in him. I don’t want that,” he said.
“Ship Sailed”
Meanwhile, according to Haney, he has a very valid reason for not wanting a rematch with Garcia. When asked on X if Garcia’s victory against Barrios would tempt him, he only had one response.
“Ship sailed when he dropped outta VADA testing,” he said.
