Ryan Garcia Is Dangerous ‘Regardless of All The Bullsh*t’, Says Mario Barrios

Hidden under the antics and the controversial histrionics, there is no doubt that Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) is a phenom in his craft. As he prepares to fight for Mario Barrios’ (29-2-2, 18 KOs) WBC crown, his opponent isn’t going to let all the drama take his focus away from Garcia’s boxing prowess.

Speaking at their recent press conference, Barrios expressed his interest in Garcia’s personality and antics, while also noting that all this does not take away from the fact that he is an exceptional fighter.

“He’s definitely a character and has the personality of an influencer, but he’s still a dangerous fighter. I’m getting ready for a Ryan that we know and think is going to be a 100 percent,” he said. “Regardless of all the bullsh*t he has going on, he’s still one of the biggest names in the sport, and I want to bring the biggest fights to the fans. He’s saying he’s 100 percent ready, and that’s exactly what we want.”

Both Barrios and Garcia are both coming into the fight with unsteady performances in their recent appearances. Barrios’ last two fights, against Abel Ramos and Manny Pacquiao, ended in a draw. Meanwhile, Garcia lost his last fight against Rolando Romero following his highly publicised suspension.

With the fight happening within a month’s time, there is one move of Garcia’s that Barrios is trying to vary off, his destructive left hook. A move that he is looking forward to dismantling with Garcia’s former trainer, Joe Goossen.

“Distance and timing is going to be the key, and using my physical attributes and boxing skills. It’s an advantage having Joe Goossen, but we can just look at his last couple of performances and pick up his bad habits, what he does well, and what he does poorly,” he said.

“He’s Getting A Little Worn Down Now”

Garcia, on the other hand, is confident as always about how he’ll fare against Barrios. Talking at the promotional event about how his opponent is getting a little rough around the edges, Garcia admitted that he is looking forward to dishing out an explosive finish.

“I think he’s getting a little worn down now. I think he’s taken some good punches and a couple of too many good shots. He’s slowed down a little bit. He fights a certain way that’s very generic, but he’s very good at it,” he said. “For sure, I can knock him out. I believe I have the fastest hands in boxing.”
