Ryan Garcia ‘Signs’ A Contract on IG Live To Face WBC 147 lb Champion Mario Barrios on February 21

Boxing star Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) has “signed” to fight WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) on February 21, according to a live video he hosted on Instagram late Wednesday night.

Earlier in the day, Garcia went on X and said that he would be making his next fight announcement on Instagram Live later that day. As the hours passed, there was no announcement, and fans began to wonder if it would happen at all. Then, later in the evening, Garcia stayed true to his word and went on Instagram Live to make the following announcement:

Like I said, guys, I’m pretty tired right now. It’s a long day, but I promised you guys I would have this video for you. My next fight announcement. Here’s the contract right here like I promised you guys. Lupe was taking a little long but it’s okay; we still love him. Here we go. Gotta get to the last page. Boom. Here I go—signed! I’m going to be fighting for the real WBC championship belt against Mario Barrios on February 21, so get ready cause I’m coming. Let’s go!”

There have been rumors circulating for weeks that Garcia’s next opponent would be Barrios, but there hadn’t been any confirmation from Golden Boy or Premier Boxing Champions on the matter, so all that was left was for someone to make a move. That was Garcia on Wednesday night. The “signed” part was put in quotes as all you can see is Garcia signing a document. There hasn’t been an official announcement from the promoters involved nor from Barrios’ side if he signed his portion of the contract. So this announcement is a good start to build anticipation for the expected announcement in the coming weeks with ticket and undercard information accompanying it.

FightsATW will keep tracking this developing story as more information becomes available.
