Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn Officially Announced For September 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada

The fight that the fighters announced multiple times, whether on social media or on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, has finally been formally announced on Wednesday. WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) will face Conor Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) on Saturday, September 12, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight card will stream on Paramount+ and on DAZN in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The last couple of weeks have been interesting, as Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya has been vocal about not being contacted about the fight and, according to him, there was no fight. Then last week, De La Hoya posted a video saying that he received the paperwork and would look it over with his team. Dana White had Garcia and Benn at the Conor McGregor fight this past weekend, and the idea was to announce it then, but it appeared that the paperwork hadn’t been signed off by Golden Boy, so there was no announcement.

On Wednesday, White posted a video on social media announcing the fight date, venue, and location. This event will be a Ring card, with Golden Boy and Zuffa Boxing as co-promoters. Operationally, Zuffa Boxing will likely take the lead, especially since the fight will stream on Paramount+, their media platform partner.

Now that the fight has been announced, is this one you are excited about? I know both Garcia and Benn have a ridiculous search history on Google, so at a minimum, this fight will be one of the most searched of the year. The only question that remains is whether the WBC will have any issues with this fight now that Zuffa Boxing will likely have the lead and the title will likely not be acknowledged. A hint of that is White calling Garcia a welterweight world champion only. Something to pay attention to in the coming weeks.
