Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) is currently gearing up for a showdown against Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) on Saturday. However, it looks like he might just have another opponent in mind.
Talking to the Ring Magazine, Garcia expressed his desire to step into the ring, once again, for a pugilistic tango with Shakur Stevenson.
“Yes, I do. I do have a preference. I don’t want to get too far ahead. I think I’ve made it very clear. People know who I want and, as the champion, I would love to handle that business, but I don’t know if he will come up. You guys know,” he said.
When asked whether the opponent was Stevenson, he nodded.

The duo reportedly fought each other in the amateurs, with Stevenson emerging the victor. Garcia, who claims that he was robbed, revealed that he is out for vengeance.
Stevenson is fresh off a welterweight showdown against Teofimo Lopez. And it might just be the time for the duo to meet.
“I’ve been waiting for that rematch since I was in the amateurs. I beat him for sure. He knows when he’s in the ring with me, it ain’t gonna be like what he does to these other guys. I got the same fast twitch,” Garcia said. “I have the same eye movements. He’s never fought a fighter as quick as him in every way, so we got to see what he could do with me.”
“I Love The Fight”
The feeling is certainly mutual, as Stevenson’s words seem to share the same excitement. Talking at Inside the Ring, Stevenson revealed that Garcia is an opponent that he is looking forward to facing in the future.
“I love the fight. I think that’s perfect. I think it’ll be a lot of excitement in that fight. It’s a big money fight,” he said. “Ryan Garcia is somebody who comes in there [and] you never know which version of him is going to show up. If the good version of him shows up, he gets spanked. If the bad version of him shows up, he gets spanked.”
