‘SD Fight Night: Family Business’-Julius Ballo vs Roman Reyes Fight Results: Ballo Scores UD

OCEANSIDE, Calif- It was ‘SD Fight Night: Family Business’ at the Frontwave Arena, and in the main event, Julius “JuJu” Ballo (3-0) scored a unanimous decision over Roman Reyes (6-2, 5 KOs) in front of a crowd of 5,000 fight fans. All three judges scored this one 60-54 for Ballo, who remains undefeated.

In the opening round, there wasn’t much in the way of punches, but there were plenty of foot feints as both fighters tried to establish their distance. The best punch of the round was a straight right hand by Ballo that landed cleanly on Reyes’ chin.

Ballo opened up more on offense in the second round, consistently throwing a 1-2 combination down the middle, which landed each time. Reyes had a hard time picking it up and spent most of the round moving around and trying to land a right hand, which he didn’t.

In the third round, it was all Ballo, who used smart movement to create angles and land his 1-2 combinations. At this point in the fight, it was hard to figure out what Reyes’ plan was against Ballo, as he seemed lost in the ring.

The rest of the fight was all Ballo, as he controlled the pace, distance, and angles on his way to a shutout decision.

Jonny Mansour Remains Undefeated

Lightweight prospect Jonny Mansour (7-0, 2 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over William King (6-4-2, 3 KOs) in the first of a double main event on PPV. All three judges scored it 80-72 for Mansour, who remains undefeated.

In the opening round, neither fighter showed much offense, but with a minute left, Mansour landed a left hook that buckled King, forcing him to step back. Mansour immediately jumped on him but couldn’t secure a knockdown before the round ended.

King came back in the second round, as he was a bit more active with his left jab. Mansour also flicked out his left jab in the round, but he may have punched himself out from the previous round. In the third round, Mansour came back strong and landed a straight right hand that buzzed King, but just as in the first round, he wasn’t able to capitalize on the moment. Still, he dominated the round with good combinations.

Mansour dictated the pace throughout the fourth round as King appeared more concerned with surviving than winning the round. For the rest of the fight, Mansour dictated the pace behind his left jab, and King never made any adjustments to try to win. Mansour earned his seventh win, but more importantly, he performed under the pressure of co-promoting his own show.

Pedro Angel Cruz (6-6, 4 KOs) landed two consecutive huge check left hooks that sent Angel Juan Estrada (12-2-1, 9 KOs) crashing down face-first to the canvas. Estrada would take Cruz with him on the way down, but not after the referee called a halt to the action in the first round.

Angel Ramirez (1-0, 1 KO) had an interesting debut, landing a crisp right hand to Jose Sosa’s (1-1) ear that appeared to have burst his eardrum. Sosa’s ear kept bleeding, and the referee stopped the fight because of the nature of the injury. Ramirez earns a second-round KO.

Franklin Garcia (1-0, 2 KO) wasted no time in the first round, as a left hook followed by a straight right hand sent Rahmel McKinley (1-3) down for the first knockdown of the fight.
